Mold in cpap machine
Mold in cpap machine
Woaw, just noticed black spots on the plastic piece attached to my base coap machine. I'm assuming it's mold.
I did buy it used from what turned out to br a smoker so it could be related to that and i never noticed??
Anyway, unless that piece is replaceable, I think it's time to buy a brand new cpap machine.
Now that i have some experience, I plan to make it portable for ease of travel.
Anyway, just a reminder to folks to inspect their machines regularly.
I change the holder daily and wash. Use wipes on mouthpiece nightly. Wash tubes
when they start to smell. But the actual machine is on top of towels to muffle
sound and kinda hidden so I wouldn't have caught it except I saw an ant while washing out
water thingie and wanted to make sure there weren't more on the machine.

Re: Mold in cpap machine
Maybe a general warning about buying a used machine?
Or a reminder to inspect our equipment?

Re: Mold in cpap machine
dwhla, if you could take a picture of the area with the mold, there are several people here who could give you a step-by-step to access the part to clean it. Unlike some other plastics, mold is just on the surface of cpap parts, so should clean off nicely and the cpap goes back to work. Yes, you may want a new machine, but you still need a backup! The only mold that can't be cleaned off (well, I don't think it can be) is mold that shows up on the computer board OR in the motor windings for the blower, but then I'd be puzzled how it got there in the first place.

It was more of an alert/reminder to folks to check their equipment thoroughly. Wasn't meant to be a question.
Will take pic tonight, thanks so much!

Never buy a machine (or supplies /accessories) from a smoker or even from a residence where there is a smoker!
Re: Mold in cpap machine
Agreed.
I only found that out when the equipment arrived reeking of smoke. Took a month until it was usable.

Re: Mold in cpap machine

Hope that worked. Was a little blacker before I wiped it a bit this morning.
Going to wipe it some more now.
If I can take off I will.

System One Humidifier???
I couldn't see exactly which part had the black spot but look at these and see if these will fit.

Are you talking about the clear plastic piece on top?dwhla wrote:Hope that worked. Was a little blacker before I wiped it a bit this morning.

And yes the part on the top (but inside the machine) if that makes sense.

Re: Mold in cpap machine
PaleRider has taken apart and cleaned at least one machine from a smoker. I seem to recall pictures. He had to replace the insulation I believe, but that was pretty easy. Just requires a Torx screwdriver and some patience. It's the insulation that holds the smokey odor.D.H. wrote:Never buy a machine (or supplies /accessories) from a smoker or even from a residence where there is a smoker!
