No mention as to whether it will ever be rolled out.
Other interesting piece of information was that sleep specialists are generally only 80% accurate!

The 80% number is an eye-opener. From the article: "Using this approach in tests of 25 healthy volunteers, the researchers found that their technique was about 80 percent accurate, which is comparable to the accuracy of ratings determined by sleep specialists based on EEG measurements."
Hey, isn't this a prototype tricorder? Dr. McCoy would be proud.

You'd be surprised. A lot of medical equipment design was based on Star Trek episodes as the initial inspiration. yay!Bertha deBlues wrote:The 80% number is an eye-opener. Re: Sleep studies changed for ever?
Using radio waves to monitor sleep. The first thing that came to my mind is that this technology is not new at all. This is exactly what the Resmed S+ sleep monitor does and it has been on the market for a while. Then I read the article and realized that they are not claiming to have invented the technology, just that they claim to have improved the accuracy to 80%. Hopefully sleep monitoring accuracy keeps improving. I have to agree that the wires in the sleep lab were quite annoying.
