I think that you are opening the wrong box. Nothing is more deathly than stepping a foot into a hospital; it is the third leading cause of deaths in the USA behind heart disease and cancer. As for back surgery its record is terrible, almost all fail in the long term and that is assuming that there is even any short term benefit. In my case, doctors will not even touch me since my entire spine is going south. Below are a couple links to death by medicine. If you like, just search for "accidental deaths in hospital". I don't want to even drive by one.
