Libido

Post by CollegeGirl » Sun Sep 24, 2006 10:54 pm

Disclaimers:

Okay, I should say first that if the discussion of libido makes you uncomfortable, you might want to stop reading here. Wouldn't want to offend any posters who are near and dear to my heart.

Even though my username is CollegeGirl and I currently attend a college, I am, in fact, 27 years old, and therefore well past "legal."

Now, on with the post...

I've read all these posts by you folks with more life experience (hey, I phrased that pretty good, eh? ) talking about how you got your libidos back after CPAP treatment.

Well, I never thought it applied to me...until now. Along with all the other benefits of finally feeling rested, my libido has increased quite a bit. I didn't even know it was missing, until now.

When I realized that it had returned, my first thought was not one of joy.

It was, "Oh, great. And I had to go to a women's college."

Thought you all could probably use a laugh.

Yes, you sure did. I see you becoming a future ambassador to Spain when you are a LOT OLDER THAN YOU ARE NOW.

Tell that to all the 18-year-olds around here, will ya? They all like to tease me because I'm "old."

I'll be 28 in December. When I was 18, 30 seemed ancient. Now it seems like I will have barely started living.

Female School

Post by birdshell » Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:12 pm

CG, I see only one contradiction in your post:

In fact it seems that the females in all-female institutions have a larger-than-usual number of those male-types! At least, that is my experience (trying to sail or canoe to the boys' camp across the lake, or at least meet the boys in the middle).

However, there are a few colleges here in Michigan that have very favorable male to female ratios ....PM me if you would like more information.

CollegeGirl,

I can attest that having a foggy head from OSA induced lack of good healthy sleep does nothing to help one identify what is appealing let alone having the energy to do something about it

Same actually applies to one's well being and sense of self worth. I am willing to bet that most people on a good cpap treatment that is keeping their AHI low, are not only clearer in their thinking but mentally nimbler as well as quicker to recognise what is worth being physically nimble about that pertains to libido

Cheers

LOL. Thanks for the offer, birdshell. There are co-ed schools around here, but it's hard to find men my age in what little spare time I have. All the ones 'round here are 18-year-old frat boys, and I am waaaay done with those.

I just spent 10 minutes typing up what I *do* want, and then realized that I could consolidate it by saying that, trust me, none of the men that I've met from the co-ed schools around here fit that description. I'll just have to wait until I get home and start my career. This is my last year of college! (Side note: What will I do when I graduate? Will I have to change my username?

Besides, there's a guy back home that wants to date me - and I still have to decide if I want to let him. I can't wait for the conversation where I tell him he has to be okayed by the folks here before I'll get serious with him.

Hi CollegeGirl,

Very funny posting. It caused me to think back when I was in high school, probably at the height of a young man's curiousity and desire, and I attended a Jesuit priest catholic school in Detroit which was an all boy's school. Fortunately I didn't have to worry about sleep apnea at that time and my libido was in full swing, but alas as you would imagine, at least for my choice in sexual partners, the choices were non-existent.

When I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the situation changed, much to my delight. I do emphatically remember that after being treated for sleep apnea, a couple of years ago, and after just a short period of time, I regained my old self, and for the first time in quite a while my waking up in the morning was reminiscent of when I was a young man. How I enjoyed that reawakening and flashback to the good old days.

There are many things that I'm elated about in being treated for sleep apnea:

* improved libido
* not having to get up for bathroom breaks 3-4 times/night
* more rested during the day
* dreaming again
* lower blood pressure
* general health improvements

Thanks for the nudge in reminding me how lucky we are in staying with our therapy.

Paul

Know That Feeling

Post by birdshell » Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:43 pm

Yes, I (who did not want to be an MD because I would have had to go to college for too many years, then went for more years than an MD would anyway) went back to college several times. I think I know what you mean, CG. The ones that really amazed me (male or female) were the ones who would leave class for a cigarette, then return. Wouldn't one risk missing an important fact or two? One prof noted names and times of each of these incidents--math teacher, wouldn't you know?

BTW, a serial killer was a fraternity guy at my alma mater! Kind of puts one off of the fraternity guys for a while, although there really and truly were some very nice ones. One must remember that the charm of the serial killer worked on the frat brothers during rush, as well as the co-eds on dates.

Right.

I'm now reserving a one-way ticket to the nearest convent as we speak.

Sorry, I really did not mean to scare you. If they have space in the convent, I hope that you are Catholic already. I also hope that you won't have any bad dreams now.

BTW, there were girls who did go out with him who are still alive and well. There are at least 2 I know of who were SUPPOSED to go out with him, but something happened to interfere in one case, and the guy was arrested before they went out in the second case.

You didn't really scare me, birdshell (by the way, have you ever noticed it's impossible to abbreviate your username? "bs" just doesn't seem nice!). I was just joking. Sadly, nothing could scare me away from men permanently. Well, with the possible exception of one showing up with an axe in his hand.

"Perks" of cpap therapy

Post by kteague » Mon Sep 25, 2006 12:18 am

Okay everyone, the last few years since my sleep disorders took their toll, my life has been markedly less complicated in some respects (as relates to topic). Now you're telling me if I quit taking this mask off in the middle of the night someday I'm going to want to complicate it again. Maybe I should just throw the whole machine out the window! Just kidding, but I think I've already met my quota.

Kathy

LOL!

Yes, increased libido is one of the ...uh.....'drawbacks' -of CPAP therapy.
Unfortunately,my wife says my libido was too high before the therapy.
