Everest Aura Headrest

Post by Tom1410 » Fri Sep 08, 2006 3:36 pm

I just got this Aura Headrest and have tried every adjustment possible but cannot get it to seal tightly in my nose. I don't see how this is supposed to stay tight given the adjustments available. I did try taking rubber bands and tied them together attaching them to each side near my nostrils and that pulled it tight against my nose and stopped the leak. Anyone else run into this problem and have a better solution

Tom,

Try adjusting it to its largest size and then rotating the headgear further back on your head so that the lower rear strap is at the base of your skull. Then adjust the nose piece smaller until it sits firmly in your nose.

If this does not work, is it possible that you have a small head? In the past people with smaller heads have found the Aura harder to fit correctly.

Sincerely,

Yes, my head is somewhat small.

Search for Rested Gals links on the headrest. I have a smaller head too, and have found that the "rubber band fix" works great. I absolutely love my Aura!

I've found that RG's "mantyhose" strap is the perfect solution. Do a search for "pantyhose" and Aura and you should find it. I have a small head, too, but the Aura fits perfectly for me with this addition.

Links to Aeiomed Headrest (Aura) nasal pillows mask topics

The first three topics in those links have pictures showing some "fixes" to the Headrest mask (Aura).

Thanks for the links RG. However, not all the pictures are showing up on the first link (with the instructions to "deconstruct" the mask). Does anyone else have them to re-post?

Thanks for letting me know that, Chuck. I've sent a PM to Linda3032 to see if her great pictures can go back up again.

I know my pictures don't show up on the 2nd link. I was cleaning up my "photobucket" site, and deleted the pictures from it. Duh. Sometimes, I just don't think.

Sorry about that.

However, I do still use my deconstructed Aura with two pantyhose straps. It stays in place and I love it with no headgear. If anyone has a deconstructed Aura and hates it, I will be happy to buy it from you. I need another one.

Well, I found the original pictures in my computer. So I downloaded them again into PhotoBucket (and I promise I won't delete them). So now, they are back on the original link.

Thanks, RG, for offering to help. Surprisingly, I was able to recover the pictures and edit the post. (after pulling such a dumb stunt in deleting them, I had to redeem myself). ..............

Tom1410,
You may have already done this, but did you try bending the wires that are in the interface? I know some didn't realize it was OK to bend those. Just be sure to watch out when you do so you don't crimp the tubing.

Good tip, Esther!! When I got my first Aura shortly after it was introduced, I worried about cutting off the airflow if I bent the wires much, and wasn't entirely sure at first whether they were supposed to be bent...takes a fair amount of force to bend them. (I bent 'em anyway...lol )

Aside from the bending, I've mashed the tubing pretty severely by means of the tiny piece of velcro I put up high around both tubes of the nasal assembly..to pull the tubes as close together up high as I could. They fit my nostrils better if they were closer together. I literally squashed the two tubes together, yet when the air starts blowing, it seems to get through ok.

So I think Tom will be safe to bend those inner wires as you suggested, as much as he wants to and not cause a problem. The tubes can look all flattened or bent and distorted, yet air still seems to get through them fine once the machine starts.

That was a good hint, Esther, about bending the wires. Glad you mentioned it.

How come that doesn't surprise me? We are all indebted to you (and others like you) who "boldly go where no one has gone before."

From the AEIOMed Headrest (aura) fitting guide:

"If needed, the overmolded stainless steel wire can be adjusted to accomodate the patient's nose for a personal fit."

...so bend away!
