allergy to full face mask silicone
Has anyone experienced extreme redness and irritation to mask material?
I have....it was bad enough to go see my dr and get a prescript...my next stop after the pharmacy was the sleep clinic to get a different mask....On my forehead and right cheek it was very red, swollen, painful-almost like boils....the sleep clinic dr thought for sure i was allergic to the mask (material). Hard to say if you are allergic-I would say if it is getting worse and more painful to go see your doctor. Good luck

I did too. My nose and cheeks got terrible blisters on them. I really think it was something in the material of the mask, I hadn't washed it good prior to wearing it ,after I soaked it in baby shampoo and then some white vinegar and water I never had the problem again. pat

mask allergy
Thanks so much for the advice! I'll try soaking the new mask first.

I was wondering how lizzietishb is doing.
lfranek have you found a mask that does not irritate you.
Are any of you allergic or have problems with the cushions of eye glasses.
I am asking because there is one type of eye glass cushions that irritate my skin unitl there is no skin left (withing a couple of hours.) I now always change the cushions. The eye place tole me they are all made of silicon. So I really do not know what causes that reaction. (It has happened with two set of glasses 2 years apart.)
The reason I left the glasses on and got to this part, is because I did some shopping, and just thought it was "getting used to the new glasses" and I was not being tough enough. By the time I got home, I said enough is enough took them off and the open sores were there. The second time happened quick, went right back to the eye place, never left the area.

And that's because of production residues that might be left on the silicon, not necesaarily the silicon itself. I read this after reacting badly to a mask's material the first night - soaked as instructed, and the problem was solved.... For those with sensitive skin, it is a good idea to soak ANY new mask you use for 30-60 minutes in mild soapy water

Nose pad reaction
I've had a similar experience, but only once. Replacing the softer nose pads with harder ones was the solution.SelfSeeker wrote:(snip)

My friend is married to my optometrist. I will ask him (the optometrist) about the composition of the nose pads when next I see him.

ozij, thanks for the info.
Only problem is that I would have to assemble it again. Yikes, some of these masks look so confusing.

Re: Nose pad reaction
birdshell,
Thank you for offering to ask, I really appreciate it.
The new replacements seem soft, (which I do not react to).

Then don't take it apart. I've NEVER had mine apart. They should clean up just fine without doing that.SelfSeeker wrote:ozij, thanks for the info.
