Do numbers go up with a cold

Post by quilterB » Mon Sep 18, 2006 10:45 am

I experienced a rather large increase in numbers last night. I have a cold an feel quite congested, but I use a hybrid and thought that would take care of the mouth breathing. My AHI was 17 last night and my pressure went up to 18. My pressure rarely goes over 11 so the 18 was very difficult to deal with. Is this a common experience with congestion? Just wondering because I am certainly not done with this cold.
Thanks, Linda

I havn't had a cold, but congestion does make the numbers go up, even with a FF Mask. When you are miserable, every thing get worse. Jim

I am just winding up my first cold and congestion experience. While I didn't get numbers quite as bad as you, yeah, everything (AHI, VS, leaks...) went up. I felt almost as bad in the mornings as I did before I started on CPAP. It's going back to normal now, slowly but surely. Hang in there.

The increased snoring probably caused the 'run-away' pressure situation.
Setting up a tighter, Min/Max range should help in that area. Although I haven't tried it yet, increasing your Min pressure may prevent some of those
snores.

Actually, I had the opposite experience last year. It seemed like I was catching "something" about every other month in '05.....the last event was the flu last Thanksgiving week. My AHI numbers usually seemed to drop. I presumed it had something to do with shallower breathing.
