What would you do?

Post by alphabettie » Sun Sep 17, 2006 9:09 am

I think I am getting better. What would you do with these scores? Anything?
I month of data:
AI: 1.0
Apneas CA: .2
Hypops: 1.3
Hypops FL .3
Acoustical vib 2.4
Runs 37.2
average pressure: 14.7
Pressure more than 95% 17
Cycle states:
normal 70%
Intermediate: 6%
Flow limited 24%
Invalida: 0%
PB 420 e 11.5 minimum and 17.5 max.
Titrated at 12
Mask: Activia
Leak rate stays the same all night--a red line below a pink line.
Do I need to tweak anything or just continue to go forward. I am tired on weekends expecially but I drive 2.5 hours to and from work Monday through Friday...and I stay awake.

Does this mean my AHI is 2.5 or do I add the FL and Acoustical Vibs?

Hi Bettie,

Yes, the AHI is averaging 2.5 for the month. No, don't add the limited flows or acoustical vibrations to the total.

Your numbers look very good. I would try one little experiment, if you haven't already. I'd turn off IFL1 in the "Advanced Settings" menu and use the machine for a couple of nights with IFL1 off. Leave IFL2 on, always.

If you see the pressures used most of the time staying down lower on those two nights, while your AI and HI numbers remain good, I'd leave IFL1 turned off. If it doesn't seem to make any difference in letting you spend more time at the lower pressures, then turn IFL1 back on.

The 420E auto is a neat little machine. I do think it's a good idea to be using the Silverlining software with it, as you are, to be able to see how things go with IFL1 on (the factory default setting) and then with IFL1 off.

Thanks so much for the heads up. I will try that. In the meantime, since the Activia seems to be the best for me, I have several masks that I have used only one partial night or two: hybrid, swift, comfortlite, another comfort style, and a breeze. It has been expensive but worth finding a mask that works well leak wise. As you can see, I get little help from DME on choices and had to resort to finding the mask that would work best on my own.

They felt the swift was good enough.....but good enough was not good enough for me. Now I think of my poor mother who just wore what the dme gave her and struggled. I wish I had been able to help her but I didn't know what to do for her. Now that Ido, it is too late.

Thank you to all your wonderful posts.....I went from straight cpap at 12 to an apap of 11.5 to 17.5 and got under 5 AHI because of the posts on this board. Before I was more like 9 and feeling lousy. This is truly a worthwhile message board for proactive apnea patients.

If anyone wants a barely used mask....pm me for details. Keep helping one another--many lives have become better because of this site.
