Newbie sharing some advice

Post by SleeplessInKS » Wed May 03, 2017 8:07 pm

Hey everyone.

Just joined this group today. Have been using a cpap for two weeks now. I went through the sleep study because my partner has been sleeping in the other room because of my snoring and I was getting tired of it. Boy, am I glad I did.

I started seeing the benefits from night 1. I wasn't so groggy waking up as I usually was and am feeling much more rested. It wasn't easy the first week though. I'm still adjusting a bit with the tubing when changing positions. One thing I was noticing, though, was a whistling sound from the mask. I'm using a ResMed P10 pillow. It would stop after a while and I was finally able to get to sleep.

After reading some posts on here, I saw where someone said that it was happening to them. They resolved it by upsizing their pillows to a higher size pillow. So, I talked to my Dr. office to get an upsize. I was using an x-small. I got a small and that seems to resolve the issue for me as well. Last night, no whistling noise at all.

Also, my partner did try to sleep in our bed but was having issues because my mouth would open and leaking air was keeping him up. So I got a chin strap and used that lady night. I noticed that my mouth only opened once and my mouth wasn't dried out as much because of that. I need to figure the right fit for that I think. Or else, shave my beard.

Anyway, hope this helps anyuelse with the whistling issue. I'm sure it can be a variety of causes though.

Google Hose Buddy... it'll help with the hose. Also though, people rig all kinds of neat ways to deal with... hooks on or behind the headboard, sky hooks, etc.

iirc- you should be getting 3 sizes in the mask package just for that reason.
