I do have a sort of flapping of the inner mouth seal at times when I inhale but not too many leaks. It certainly fits and feels better with the Pad a Cheeks but I still think there should be definite sizes of headgear, not just straps to adjust. I'm so determined to wear this one that I may be overlooking what is happening. I'll let the doctor to decide.
There is no need to vote right now. Take your time and evaluate the effectiveness of the Hybrid for you -- in fact it would be best not to vote if you are unsure ... there is no end date on this survey and I plan to keep it alive by periodically bumping it up may it disappear for a while. Vote when you have determined whether or not it actually worked for you or not.

Again, thanks for participating,

Hybrid

Post by snoozie_suzy » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:08 pm

Hi Roberto,

Having a fuller set of cheeks helped me with the mouthpiece part or curve to curve have you, but I still sometimes struggle with the nasal pillows popping out. I wish there was a way when inserting them in the mouthpiece that they could be tilted in, instead of tilting slightly out. I have a very small nose and slotted small nares, so even with the small size, if I don't REALLY tighten the top strap on the head, they come popping out.

So yes, two different set of factors to play with, the size/angle bridge of nose, and the shape of face.

great survey,
Suzy

With a non-parametric sample size of 12, the Hybrid has a success rate of 58.33% and a failure rate of of 41.66%. Think about that before you shell out the $175!

Thanks Suzy -

Have you tried the rubberband tweak for your Hybrid pillows? I think Sleeples in LI came up with it may you want to do a search on it. She too was trying to angle the pillows inward towards the nares.

Chuck -

It would be interesting to survey each of the more popular interfaces to see the comparative success rate of each. I remember a prof stating once that 32 samples was sufficient for a normal distribution ... does that sound right to you?

Is there an interface out there that does better? Any style-pillows, nasal, or full face. I don't mean that in a challenging way-I'm looking for leads on the next interface. I plan to pay out of pocket for the less expensive trials and wait for replacement time to try the more expensive models. I have two more things to do to stop the Hybrid leaks cutting off the chin flap and another headgead modification. If that doesn't work I'll be looking for another interface.

Roberto-

Anything above 25 is parametric.

As I aluded to in the previous post ... it may be a cool idea to survey the success/failure rate for the more popular interfaces ... perhpas three surveys broken up into nasal pillows; nasal masks; and full face masks.

Does the 25 take into consideration the sampling error or does it have to be estimated and added to the 25 sample base parametric limit?

Why did you have to remind me about all the statistics I've forgotten but 25 and 32 both sound way too small for such a select population as the people on this forum.

Stats (redux)

Post by GoofyUT » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:50 pm

The stats take into account the sampling error. The sample size of 25 or greater gives you a pretty good guess that the sample is representative of the population.

But it is only representative of the population active on this forum and responding to the survey. My guess is this is a very small percentage of the population which has tried the Hybrid.

It is still interesting to see the comments. Good survey Roberto.

I have tried it...and every time...the leaks are terrible. I went back to my Mirage Swift and taping. Whether my face is round, square or whatever, the Hybrid leaks worse than a sieve sorry to say.

beneyw -

Very sorry the Hybrid did not work for you. xPAP interfaces are very subjective to each individual as you will discover when reading thru the various interface related posts on this forum. Consequently, your last comment does not help others in determining if they should try the Hybrid or not because most all people do not have all three generalized face shapes as you imply that you do. If you want to help out others from making a bad purchase, you would need to categorize yourself into one of the three face shapes and vote accordingly.

Chuck, krousseau, and rooster -

After giving it some thought last night while going to sleep (I know I know, I don't count sheep like most everyone else ... I'm just a nerd I suppose). As rooster has pointed out, the minimum sample size actually depends on the estimated population .. but also on the margin of acceptable error (5% or 10%), the number of parameters being sampled (3 facial shapes), and the fact that we are sampling for categorical data (binary/nominal to be specific -- which generally requires a larger minimum sample).

Unfortunately, I don't know what the formula is to calculate the minimum sample size for this study except that we could probably say that if we get 75% of the estimated population ... the results should be fairly accurate. Now estimating the population number of Hybrid users or the number of Hybrid users on this forum is the challenge.
