Re: Back into the fray?
I don't have a crystal ball and we don't even know the area you are looking. My sleep doctor was one I was assigned to see. At the least he got me the machine that I needed.
For the most part, I don't believe the doctor is the most important part of success. But rather a positive attitude and looking for answers to make things work.
Do you have a machine now and what model is it? Learn all you can about your machine and how it works so you can ask knowledgable question of your doctor. Get the clinical manual it has a lot more info than the user manual. Make sure your machine is a full data machine and use software to see how you are doing.
Ask questions and use the forum to support you through the difficult issues. Welcome to the forum and I hope we can help you be successful this time.

Don't leave this part out of Dr. Park's blog article:desiderata wrote:"There are many patients that are 100% compliant with CPAP, using their machines 100% of the time they are sleeping, with no leaks and a low AHI, and still feel no better. Sometimes they can even feel worse than when they don’t use CPAP."

At this point, that is the important part for you. You probably didn't have those factors working for you the first time around. This time, you have the chance.Despite all these obstacles, there are proven ways to improve CPAP success. With a systematic and formalized education program, along with intense counseling, follow-up, and long-term support, many more people can benefit from CPAP.

Where I disagree with the esteemed Dr. Park, is the "systematic and formalized" part. (It doesn't exist.) Thousands of people have found success with the "haphazard and informal" things found in this forum. I did, and you can too.
Take advantage of what this forum offers, and you greatly improve your chances of success.
Re: Back into the fray?
compliance is meaningless unless your treatment is tailored for you.desiderata wrote:"There are many patients that are 100% compliant with CPAP, using their machines 100% of the time they are sleeping, with no leaks and a low AHI, and still feel no better. it's like wearing a pair of glasses with the wrong prescription, no matter how long you wear them, you won't be able to see.

Re: Back into the fray?
Color me skeptical. After using CPAP for a long time, I have not found anything comparable to the good help at cpaptalk.com. Not even when my sleep doc and his RT ran a monthly A.W.A.K.E workshop for CPAP users. In fact, they encouraged people to use cpaptalk.com.desiderata wrote:I delved into it quite deeply at the time. With expert (not just in formal qualifications, but practical know-how also) help from many.

Sometimes when the "support" meetings are run by DME's, they constitute little more than a SALES TOOL.
I have observed LIES told by the speakers--and called them out on it. (((Bad frog?)))

You are indeed a bad little froggy. You are supposed to sit there quietly and then buy all of the things you don't need for treating your apnea, so they can get richer.chunkyfrog wrote:Sometimes when the "support" meetings are run by DME's, they constitute little more than a SALES TOOL.

Even people with stinkin' attitudes like yours have been able to get excellent, personalized help here when they do their part.desiderata wrote:I'd love some customized help!! Do you want good honest ideas backed up with experience and facts or do you want hand holding "there there" sugar coating attitudes but the ideas might not be the best for you?desiderata wrote:I'd love some customized help!! Yes, we have some personalities here that not everyone jives with but the best thing when you spot someone your personality clashes with is to just ignore them. I know it's easier said than done but that's what is needed.
Also..side comment...here at this forum you tend to reap what you sow. If you have an attitude you will likely get attitude right back.

Re: Back into the fray?
Other than asking for doctor recommendations for a doctor in some unknown area, you haven't given us anything to help you with. In order to customize something we need to know what we are working with. What do you need help with? Do you have a machine if so what is it? Are you using it?desiderata wrote:I'd love some customized help!! We've all learned that responsibility for our therapy is our own. If you want to learn how to control your own therapy, it begins by you asking questions and learning all you can.

Re: Back into the fray?
I say, if desiderata wants help, then drop the attitude and ask questions, otherwise, go over to apneabored where they'll fawn all over her, and maybe offer something useful, but who can tell, since correcting someone over there is dangerous.Pugsy wrote:Do you want good honest ideas backed up with experience and facts or do you want hand holding "there there" sugar coating attitudes but the ideas might not be the best for you?desiderata wrote:I'd love some customized help!!
