 i saw this interesting article and wanted to share it...
You may have noticed that women are more prone to sleep disturbances than men. They are, for instance, up to twice as likely to suffer from insomnia than men. Could there be a link between the body clock that regulates sleep and being a female or a male? Yes, according to an original study conducted by Dr. Diane B. Boivin of McGill University’s Department of Psychiatry and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. to read more...

Some people say sleep is like sex because you don't get enough of either one !!

In my old days before I had sleep apnea and I had good health, sleep usually followed sex for me. I would have sex, roll over and fall asleep and sleepytime it would be. I'd wake up feeling like I had slept a good night of sleep and would wake up with a good mood.

Since sleep apnea almost twenty years ago, I basically no longer have sex anymore. I have erectile dysfunction from a combination of low testosterone, sub optimally treated sleep apnea and an SSRI antidepressant I take.
Id be dead by now if I didn't use my CPAP gear every night.

Many things can cause ED, including poor diet (as in not getting the right nutrition), stress, and pharmaceutical drugs. Check out all of those things, and you might find the treatment may be in your fridge or pantry rather than a pill bottle.

Oh yeah? My testosterone is so low Im probably at the level of pre-puberty.

When my CPAP was able to be run at full pressure, my ED problem improved...significantly.

I lost 100 lbs last year and the ED improved very slightly, not much. With proper CPAP therapy, my ED improved significantly. Although my testosterone levels did not go up.

The only way to find out whats really going on would be to hire my own specialist physician, ditch the third payer health insurance and blow maybe $50,000 on private medical care. And I cant afford to pay that much for medical care.

Thanks for link

In this study, the medical researcher’s team compared in 15 men and 11 women variations in sleep and alertness regulated by the body clock. The women who were recruited were cycling naturally and were studied during two phases of their menstrual cycle. This is a crucial point because previous research by Dr. Boivin had shown that the phase of the menstrual cycle affects the biological rhythms of body temperature and sleep.

This is what I've been asking my doctors for years. My apnea is worse pre-menstrual, no surprise there, hey. After being diagnosed with apnea I was finally able to convice my GP for a gynae referral and see if hormones might be making the CSA worse. The sleep specialist said women are protected from apnea when they are younger. I can only assume it's a hormonal shift that then causes it.
