How does Sleepyhead compare with myAir?

Having just started using my machine a week ago, I'm trying to figure out the best way to monitor my progress. Since it's an easy/free interface that "comes" with my machine, I've been using the myAir software from ResMed. It automatically uploads my data every morning and I can compare every day by Usage Hours, Mask Seal, AHI and Mask On/Off. Is there any more info available with Sleepyhead? Does that get my information automatically from my machine or is it something I have to input manually every day? Is Sleepyhead free?

Sleepyhead is far better than myair. Sleepyhead is free. SD card accumulates data that you periodically input to Sleepyhead on your computer. MUCH more data than myair.

MyAir just parrots the info that is on your machine already and not even in a very useful form for review over time. Sleepyhead not only gives you this information in various ways, but you can also see the wave forms which helps you solve problems. You can't really fine tune without it.

myAir is probably capturing and displaying about 10 pieces of data (per day).

Sleepyhead is showing thousands of data points, like every single breath taken while the machine was used.

myAir is better than nothing, and is convenient to get some summary data (when traveling for instance). However, not much more than what is displayed on the machine.

I find MyAir particularly useless when traveling. Usually I pack up my machine before it calls in with the nightly results and temporarily end up with a zero score until it actually calls the data in.

To me, the difference is like reading Cliff Notes for Tale of Two Cities, and actually reading the entire book. You will get the basic facts about the book with Cliff Notes, but you get all of the small details by actually reading the entire book.

Have you noticed the My Air scores?

Does it seem a little strange that you can only wear your mask for a little more than 4 hours and have a high AHI and still get a high score and be told you are doing great?? It is because all it cares about is compliance so the DME can get paid and in turn, ResMed gets paid.

Get Sleepyhead and you can learn a lot more about your Apnea and how you are controlling it than if your DME will be paid or not.

I will say that I believe most people will benefit from tweaking your settings, You really cannot do that with MyAir. MyAir is a good abbreviated summary. MyAir is also good at getting more people to be compliant. I have to be "compliant" because I just got a new BiPap (ResMed AirCurve 10 VPAP). I recently (November) went in for a split study to titrate for a BiPap and couldn't do it because I didn't sleep enough to get to the titration. Many users, as I do have no concern about "Compliance" because they would never thing of going without their machine.

I highly recommend that you get SleepyHead (FREE), copy a night or two into this forum, and see what you learn.

For "compliant," read "obedient." Not something I have been terribly good at over time.

I would say Sleepyhead beats any software the manufacturers provide. I used the Encore software and eventually found Sleepyhead through some searching and I would never go back. There is just too much functionality with SH. However, I will say that there are a lot of things I don't understand from the charts, but this forum is really helping with that.
