RainOut with a Heated Hose, S9

Post by jhk49 » Thu Jan 12, 2017 6:30 pm

I am having a problem with rainout on my hose and as a result, my wife often ends up sleeping in another bedroom because of the noise. I have a ResMed S9 with a heated hose. I live in south Georgia and the problem happens during the summer as well as the winter. I realize that the issue is condensation in the hose as related to the temperature differential. Before I had the S9 with heated hose, I tried the insulated sock but that did not appear to solve the problem. My machine is located on a stool about 10 inches above the floor and my bed is about 30 inches above the floor. Oddly enough, the only thing that I have found to be somewhat effective is to decrease the temperature of the humidifier in the summer (summer lows are 70 to 60 degrees) and increase the temp in the winter (winter lows are 50-40 degrees). This makes little sense to me because I am actually increasing the temperature differential and you would think that would increase condensation .... but, maybe I am confused because I have tried so many things.
With all of the that said, what have others found to be the most effective way to combat rain-out?
Thanks to anyone for their help.

put the insulated sock on the heated hose and use some sort of hose hanger above your head.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Have u tried another heated hose, maybe yours is not working. I just went camping and the temp fell to 27 deg. I increased my hose temp to 80 and did not have any rainout. It may be possible your filling the tank a little to full??
You just have to tinker around with temp settings to find what works for you. I have only had rainout with my S9 twice in 5 years, I overfilled tank...I normally have the temp setting just below room temp which is 72.Good luck finding your optimal temp.
