Help me buy a Winx?
OK, so I have had no luck with CPAP or oral devices, and now want to try this Winx thing -- but it's apparently only being sold to people in California? I was hoping maybe someone here had tried one and would be willing to sell it to me, or if there were someone in California who would buy one and sell it to me. I know it's a long shot, but if you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

It must be good, even Google doesn't know what it is! Jim

And, before people ask, yes, I have searched this forum and read the posts here related to the system. What I'm trying to accomplish here is actually getting my hands on one and trying it, not debating the pros and cons. Thanks!

$61/month (14.99% APR Interest) and it doesn't say for how long. Not covered by insurance or Medicare, meaning it doesn't have proven results yet. California only, which means it's probably a clinical trial. I don't see where anyone could "buy" one - looks like a rental to me.
I think you're going to have to wait until it becomes available in your state - if it ever does. CPAP is proven effective by huge numbers of people over many years. People here can help cpap users with problems that they have.

Wow, around $2000 - I thought I was extravagant with 2 APAP machines but jointly they were less than that!

Did you find oral devices comfortable or was it a case of them simply not being effective? If you didn't find them comfortable, you might have the same problems with Winx. Sleep doctor felt that when I initially rejected oral devices (which I wish I had not changed my mind on), I would have a hard time with Winx. He told me that it reduces AHI by 1/2 although I don't remember all the details.
I definitely empathize with your struggles as I am also in the same situation. Long story but I am back to give pap therapy another shot.
How long have you been trying pap therapy?
Feel free to PM me if you want to talk further.

Re: Help me buy a Winx?
Have you asked about Inspire? Also expensive, but maybe less unlikely to work.
Alternatives are almost always more expensive and less effective than cpap.
It might be worthwhile to give cpap another shot.
Your life could depend on it.

Did you actually try to set up a video appointment? It says they are free for California residents but not limited to them. Also they give testimonials from people from other states.

Re: Help me buy a Winx?
I tried to make CPAP work for almost 10 years (this is my second account in this forum), despite minimal improvement in my symptoms from using it (confirmed by sleep study in which it only reduced my AHI by a couple of points). I have 12 masks in my drawer, along with mouth tape, dental guards, chin straps, home-made headgear, home-made MASKS (I wish I were kidding), home-made mouth guards, and some stuff that I can't even remember what it is. About three years ago I switched to an oral device, which worked much better for me than any of my CPAP configurations ever did (again, confirmed by sleep study with an AHI at less than 1) -- but I'm now having jaw problems and have had to stop using it due to that.
I understand that people here are skeptical of the Winx, that's to be expected in a CPAP forum. However, this is pretty much the only really active apnea forum on the internet right now, and I have always found it to be the most supportive community. I understand that I may be throwing my money away, but I'm willing to take that chance. I certainly won't come back and sue any of you if the thing doesn't work for me. So, again, if you're in California, and would be willing to help a fellow apnea sufferer, please PM. I will be just eternally grateful. Thank you.

Yeah, I tried the video appointment and that's when it told me they are only selling the device in California.OkyDoky wrote:Did you actually try to set up a video appointment? Hmm, I didn't try lying about my location... let me give that a shot.

Usually when someone's ad's are basically smoke and mirrors, not facts, I'd beware
(run). Limited to California, another Red Flag, Could be they can't be held liable in California (Paid off the correct people). I realize you desperately, want to get away from XPAP, the Gold Standard in treatment, Too bad they can't make a drug that could bend minds into doing what's needed over what we want. It could help many people.
I hope you find your answer, I don't agree in your quest, but we all must travel our own road, hope yours gets less bumpy. Jim

Re: Help me buy a Winx?
If this forum had been around in 1981 when the first commercially-available CPAP was introduced, I am sure they would have hailed it as a scam. It's too expensive, you'll never be able to sleep wearing a mask, it will irritate your airways, it will cause farting, it will leak and dry out your eyes, it will burst your ear drums, your doctor is in cahoots with the DME, the mask will cause your teeth to rot and fall out, it will cause TMJ, rainout will drown you, my brother Billy's CPAP fell off the bed shelf and killed him, there is no efficacy software available, you'll get Legionaires' disease from the humidifier water and die, those people in Australia are nutz, ...
