how long does a heated (resmed) hose usually last?

Insurance pays for a new heated hose every three months, but I thought I'd just stockpile them. Then, this morning, it got hard to breathe and I heard burbling. The hose had water in it. So much for stockpiling.

The only care I gave the hose was to disconnect it once and a while. Washing it wouldn't have helped, would it? I used it 7.5 hours a night for 3.5 months.

And the difficulty breathing was, I hope, probably related to the water buildup?

Age of the hose has nothing to do with the build up of water or condensation in the hose unless the hose just quits heating and that doesn't happen very often.
I have been using the same ResMed ClimateLine heated hose through at least 4 ResMed machines...well over 10, 000 hours on it. One machine that I finally got rid of had over 7,700 hours on it alone.

I would suspect the hose air temp setting being too cool and thus allowing condensation to form before I would suspect hose failure. It wouldn't be impossible for the hose to fail but it sure isn't very common.

FWIW in terms of how I take care of the heated hose. I pretty much don't do anything to it. Can't remember the last time I washed it. It works for me. I also don't take any special care with it in general. No hose cozy and in the AM everything gets tossed on top of the machine. So I don't baby it either.
I just don't mess with it at all.. I tend to think that the more messing we do with anything like that the more chance we have of damaging something like an electrical wire or something.

Same hose that came with my Airsense 10, --25 months ago.
I have two spares, although my DME would love to sell me more.
I probably ought to unpack them, and store them straightened out to reduce the kinks.
Or maybe loosely curled in my nice big hatbox.

I have bad habit of stepping on mine a little. Never flattening it, just a little out of shape. It is winter and my wife likes to keep the house cold, 63F. Don't think heaters can keep up with it. That has had my hose building up with water. Not practical to put the machine lower. Made a long cosey with bathrobe material. That helped. Still get it in the mask and to boot still have a dry throat. I used it at my camp for 3 months with no humidity as I was on batteries. Not a problem at all with dry mouth. Anyway, anything with condensing moisture will start growing bacteria after a while.

I used the same climate-line hose on my S9 the whole 5+ years I used it. I prefer cool air, so I never had it turned up much.
