Wow, great difference with AirSense APAP!

Post by zeeclass » Sat Dec 17, 2016 11:34 pm

I've been using a Phillips Respironics CPAP for about 5 years. My pressure setting was 6. I was diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea at the time.

Fast forward to recently. I went through menopause and gained 15 pounds in the past couple of years. Started feeling like I wasn't getting the best night's sleep anymore. Increased my pressure to 7, and went back to my sleep doctor. She didn't want to do another sleep study, but suggested that I change my machine and my setting. She said that many women do experience a need for increased pressure after menopause, especially if they have gained weight.

She ordered me a ResMed AirSense 10 APAP and set the pressure to between 7 and 12.

Last night was the first night I used the machine. No problems at all. In the morning I looked at the sleep report....average pressure was 10! Wow, I guess I really have been under-pressured! It also showed only 1.7 events last night, so not bad!

So far I have to say that I really like the machine. It's totally quiet and it goes totally dark a few seconds after it starts. No annoying little beep or anything. I'm using my standard Respironics hose with it (made sure to change the hose setting on the machine from Slim to Standard). I don't like the slim hose that comes with the machine; I think it's too stiff.

Glad you had improvement and without another sleep study! Yay! Make sure that your order with your DME states brand name Respironics hose or you will get an offbrand in future or order taker will argue with you that it doesn't go with your Resmed machine. Next time you are there, take your hose and compare it with the Resmed heated hose - I think you will be pleasantly surprised that it is just as flexible. The advantage of ordering a heated hose is that you will always get the brand name so higher grade and QUIETER hose!

Ordering off Ebay, it's really hard to find the brand name Slimline hose. Almost everything turns out to be a knockoff. You can get brand name from the online retailers though. They don't substitute.
