I have been trying to get my wife to have a sleep study, and she always refused. When we had out last physical, our doctor asked if either of us were having any problems. I tole her my wife would stop breathing at night and she snored quite a bit. Our doctor scheduled her for a sleep study and we got the results today. Her AHI was 48, and they want to schedule her for a titration study. She says she doesn't want to do it because she is afraid the mask would be too claustrophobic. Now, I have to convince her to have the titration study, and then use the machine every night afterwards. I had her watch the Resmed video on sleep apnea today and I think she is starting to understand the damage that sleep apnea can do to her. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I think that you're on the right track with the health issues, and using internet video clips as a resource is good since they're from a neutral source, and may be viewed as more authoritative than what you're telling her. Also, your showing concern about the health issues, and expressing the fact that you're more concerned about her health than about how it looks or sounds. And that you want her to be around longer than she will be if she doesn't use therapy. People do die in their sleep with severe sleep apnea, and there's lots of longer term damage to her bodily systems as well. They may not show up for a while, but they're cumulative and will catch up with her before too long.

I think that providing information and showing concern in a loving way is going to go a long way towards influencing her to give it a try.

go to https://www.cpap.com and let her look at the different masks online and read the reviews. Let her know that there are many different styles of masks to pick from. The trick is to find the right mask for her. And yes, we know that some masks can be claustrophobic. That is why it is important to realize that it may take several attempts at finding the right mask for her. And do not give up until you do.
Ask the sleep study center is she can go in early and try on different kinds of masks.
Also, show her there are things like mask liners, and pad a cheek products that make a big difference in the comfort.

My mask the Swift FX NANO is pretty minimal, and easy to get on and off. It also adjusts and 3 places, and comes in a For her version, so to pretty easy to fit.
The other one to look at is the DreamWear mask.

The usual "use it while awake and under no pressure to fall asleep" advice.
That helped me more than anything.
And if her nose permits...go with the mask that has the smallest footprint...like the P10.

Thank you for your suggestions and support. She agreed to do the titration study. It is scheduled for Dec 4. It would be great if she could learn to use nasal pillows. She breathes through her nose during the day, but breathes through her mouth at night. We will have to cross that bridge when it gets here. At the appropriate time, I will try to get the doctor to write the prescription for the Resmed AirSense 10 Auto For Her. If she has problems, I will be back for suggestions.

Mine has diminished until it is not such a bother.

I know. I'm hoping she can use either nasal pillows or perhaps a nasal mask as they would be smaller on her face. I have tried nasal pillows several times, but have never been able to keep my mouth closed to where I didn't lose pressure through my mouth. I have tried just about everything except taping. I am allergic to tape adhesive and start getting a rash and sores if I use it too much. I shave at night so I can get a better seal. I can just imagine what using tape on my face would do after I shave. I used to use tape to hold my simplus mask in place, but I used different locations each night. I never placed the tape the same place two nights straight.
