I think SleepyEyes was referring to you saying that you yourself had been a dick, here:-

For what little it is worth.

I think I have made my thoughts just about as plain as I can. I have no misunderstanding with anyone. I pretty much understand what you all are saying...and if you can't understand what I am saying then I don't know what to tell you. I can't make it any plainer.

This thread isn't about rules...it's about just using some common sense and common courtesy to not derail a helping thread. If some of you all think it is so damned important to continually pile on with the "he's/she's bully" and take the thread way off track then you do what you think you have to do. It does nothing to help get the helping thread back on track but I suppose it allows you to feel self important and self righteous in your eyes.
It's about doing what Carolyn has often said about the in fighting...take it somewhere else. It's a place to take it if they can't seem to find a place of their own outside a helping thread.
It's about SELF MODERATION which it seems some of you can't seem to grasp the idea that self moderation means moderating yourself as much as pointing out ugly behavior.

I challenge you to come up with a viable alternative that doesn't involve fully derailing a helping thread.
You get to make your own "rules" that you can live with...hopefully your "rules" won't end up being part of the problem.

If my idea of "ugly" is different than your idea...so be it. You all get to decide your own "ugly" and you get to decide how to respond to your "ugly". If you really, really think that multiple posts with "so and so is ugly" is REALLY needed to get your point across and really, really think that it adds educational value to a helping thread by doing it...you might as well quit reading this thread and just go back to your regular behavior because you can't/won't ever see the damage you are doing to the helping thread.

Maybe..big maybe...but I have my doubts.
SleepyEyes seems to feel that we have some sort of misunderstanding going on and I disagree. That I said things in the heat of anger to her/him and need to "come back when I cool off" and clear up things.
If he/she can't understand what I am saying then nothing else I can say will clarify things and since what I said wasn't in the heat of anger...there's no cooling off.
And I feel I have a fairly clear idea what she/he is saying and wanting to do.
So for me...no misunderstanding. So I won't engage. I simply don't want to.

And yeah...I did refer to myself as a dick...it's true...I can be one. Not something I am particularly proud of but I think most people would say that when I have gone down that road that it isn't something that make a habit of.
I don't remember ever calling public calling anyone a "dick"...now privately I probably called them much worse than a dick/jerk/asshole...I tend to stick with jerk or asshole publicly. But privately....that's a whole different story.

I agree. And I think that's why Pugsy keeps bringing the topic back to helping threads that get derailed. A helping thread is any thread where the OP is asking for help and people are doing their best to make helping comments. And you're right: The OP may or may not be a newbie.

I am not the most intelligent person in the world. I'm not the dumbest either. I am just an average person of average intelligence. I try very hard not to overthink things or make simple things complicated. Simple is best. 1+1 = 2. Simple.

The INTENT of this thread is and always has been CRYSTAL CLEAR. It is very simple and extremely easy to understand. After all - I'm not the smartest on the planet and *I* got it. So, if I can get it, everybody should be able to get it. Pugsy is and always has been clear and concise in all her posts and communication. I don't understand why some people insist on making it complicated.

Did someone say "complicated"?

I think it's time for one of my dreaded polls!!!!

because some people, and I think it's pretty clear who, are here not to help, but to cause trouble and drama.

it's been suggested to me that maybe some are paid by rival DMEs to disrupt the forum, since some companies don't like the self help mentality.

I thought that was silly at first.... now I'm not so sure.

I will vote...no matter what it is about.

For Everyone:
I can't believe that people are fighting about how to fight...but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Geez, what's so friggin hard about understanding the Golden Rule and at least trying to implement it?
Can we always succeed? Of course not but we can at least try. This forum used to have a reputation for warm welcomes and A + quality cpap help. It doesn't now.

Fight all you want...just don't do it in a helping thread (newbie or veteran).
Call each other everything you can think of...just don't do it in a helping thread (newbie or veteran).
If someone's personality irritates you so much that you want to argue with them even if all they said was the sun rises in the east and sets in the west...don't read anything they write because you know it will just irritate you.

Don't agree with how I have personally have opted to try to avoid thread derailment...figure out whatever you can live with and implement it. No one ever said you had to think like I think or do what I do.
I just wanted to start you all thinking so that maybe we could avoid some of the ugliness that goes on in some of the helping threads. Hoping that you could figure out a way to be part of the solution and not a part of the problem and if you can't see the difference then I don't know what to tell you and I won't even try.

Like some of the posters above, I believe SleepyEyes21 is attempting to change the OP's [Pugsy's] thread into something much more complex than she attended. SleepyEyes21 is covertly attempting to derail Pugsy's thread. Time for Sleepy to take time out. Anyone agree with me?

cause then the election will be over maybe
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

The Golden Rule is another casualty of technology, bad parenting and the media today, along with good manners and common sense. What surprises me more than anything is people that WERE raised in the age of manners, common sense and the Golden Rule - so easily throwing them out so they can be....nope, not gonna say it. But ya'll know exactly where I was going. What on Earth would make nice, decent people decide to give up the values they were raised with and become such awful human beings. I simply do not understand it.

It saddens me to no end to see people behave in this manner.

I don't always measure up, but I try. Have I ever behaved in a way that I'm ashamed of? Yes. Have I apologized for it and tried to make up for my misdeeds? Yes again.

I know my Mother would slap me from her grave if I behaved even a fraction as badly as many people on this forum do on a regular basis. Good Manners, The Golden Rule and Common Sense. Without those three things in your daily life, you're lost.

And there's a lot of lost souls around here for sure.

It's truly never over and I suspect even more so this election.
If Trump wins we will have "we are going to hell in a hand basket" comments.
If Hilary wins we will have "we are going to hell in a hand basket" comments.
Same message...just different names.
