Hi 49er. Thank you for reposting PEF's post. It was difficult to follow this thread until you reposted her post.49er wrote:Hmm, PEF's post was deleted so here it is again so folks know what Julie is responding to at the end.
""Julie is DEAD wrong. I refer you to Dr. Steven Park's book "Sleep Interrupted". He is also almost ready to publish another book on CPAP.
He also has a very informative internet blog. I don't make this stuff up. There are several articles on his blog explaining how sleep apnea causes LPR.
Julie should not be taken seriously and should not be giving medical advice on this forum. All she does is google a topic and posts whatever the first article she sees says. I am only reporting what I have read from experts in the field, the latest research. Also, I am only reporting on what has worked for me.
She should stay off this thread because she has no relevant knowledge or experience with the subject of the thread.""

To the OP get your thyroid levels checked. That could be causing all of your symptoms. Sorry for the delayed response I had similar symptoms and have recently found out my thyroid levels are low.
Re: Are these Sleep apnea symptoms?
The symptoms you describe are symptoms I am also now dealing with. I had great relief of all symptoms at the sleep clinic. But post sleep clinic...its been a journey and I still don't think I have the right mask, or my equipment is functioning properly.
I am having air leaks also. I have had a cardiac workup, X-rays, CT scans of organs, CT scan of head, Endoscopy, on and on. All at the request of my Drs. All negative. With the shortness of breath and extreme fatigue it is always a good idea to see a cardiologist and get a cardiac workup. When that comes back negative, then you can investigate further. But are these symptoms apnea? Yes they can very well be. You might also get a thyroid panel done to check your thyroid out as well. If all comes back negative, then you need to talk with your sleep study specialist and rethink your equipment and your mask that you are using. Chin straps help some to avoid the air swallowing, and air leaking, giving you more relief from the symptoms you are experiencing.
I am struggling also with finding the right balance to give me the benefit of the CPAP machine and enjoying the absence of these symptoms and new energy.

Re: Are these Sleep apnea symptoms?
AHI of 7 is too high, but considering your baseline AHI was 120 (twice per minute), it's a big improvement. Continue CPAP use and keep you doctor's appointment.
Re: Are these Sleep apnea symptoms?
Just considering one of your symptoms, hot flashes. This is a sign of low T in men. Make sure you get it checked. If it is normal, then you can scratch that off the list.
Low T does cause excessive fatigue as well. It can be caused by OSA. If you do test low, make sure they repeat the test with estradiol, LH, FSH and Prolactin. This will validate the finding, and the other tests help determine if it is primary or secondary. This is important in how you go about treating. All tests should be performed in the morning around 8am.
