DME remote access
DME remote access
I've never been in favor of remote access and generally make sure my machine remains in airplane mode. Apparently over a 4 day period I mistakenly turned off airplane mode and a DME I no longer do business with sent my doctor a data report showing 4 days use during a 90 day period. My doctor documented this data in my subsequent visit record and not the data she downloaded from my SD card prior to my visit which shows 100% compliance. She also documented she encouraged me to use Cpap regularly which is not a discussion we had because compliance is not a problem for me.
Anyone else ever have this experience? Took some effort to get the doctor to correctly document my data in her visit record.
Is there any way to disable remote access permanently?

Re: DME remote access
you can pop the cover off and pull a plug, it's documented in a thread somewhere around here. grayghost4 could probably walk you through it.
what I'd do is just call up the DME and tell them that you withdraw any permission for them to access your medical information in any fashion whatsoever, and if they do it again, you'll be filing a HIPPA complaint against them.

Thanks palerider. I will look for that thread.palerider wrote:you can pop the cover off and pull a plug, it's documented in a thread somewhere around here. grayghost4 could probably walk you through it.

I have not been able to locate the DME by phone. They may have closed their business? I am pretty sure I at least attempted to deny the DME permission to remote access. I need to find my contract and check on this. 2 years on Cpap and I have always presented my SD card to my doctor prior to visits.
I'm not too interested in filing a HIPAA complaint over this. An apology from the DME and the doctor would be nice though. I think they forget how medical records follow patients and their incorrect documentation can interfere with insurance reimbursement and medical care down the line.

it's mainly the threat of it to get them to pay attention that I was getting atSonnyboy wrote:I'm not too interested in filing a HIPAA complaint over this. An apology from the DME and the doctor would be nice though.

oops!
Sometimes I take things far too seriously.
Looking forward to disabling the modum.

Re: DME remote access
Unless and until you request your provider, doc, and any others viewing your data cease doing so, in writing, it is not likely to stop, since they do have, in writing, a request to do so.
To future readers, if you don't want anyone accessing your data remotely just simply do not sign the HIPPA release giving permission. So many people do not read the forms when presented to them before signing. There is a lot going on when getting new equipment and the patient in already sleep deprived and making poor choices.
If you are reading this before getting your new equipment - ask to take the forms home to read in full at your pace before signing. Make note, line thru, or otherwise cross out things on the forms that you do not agree with but have other things that must be agreed to on the same form. A line thru with your initials is generally accepted.
Otherwise just do not include full pages of documents you do not agree with.
The bottom line is you must grant (or rescind) permission (in writing) for others to access your data. A phone call is not likely to undo that once granted in writing. Nor is it likely to correct any errors in your record without filing a HIPPA complaint in writing stating exactly what you wish to have corrected.

Re: DME remote access
At least for the DreamStation, you can simply remove the modem. It's in the compartment on the opposite side from the filter.
Also, when you visit the doctor, just bring in the card and request that the doctor use the data on the card.

I am considering disabling my modem but without your and PR's technical skills I'm concerned I will break my machine.
Heck, I had to google Torx T-10 screwdriver. Any risks for me to be concerned about if I follow the directions completely?

those instruction are very clear ... except I would reverse steps 5 and 6 ... start at the back ... then the front comes off easily.
The T10 is available at most hardware stores and here:

Thank you. I will give it a try and let you know how it turns out for me.
I appreciate your help.

Gray's been getting good at taking them apart, and putting them back together again, I'd follow his advice, and if you run into anything unexpected, perhaps stop and ask before going forward.Sonnyboy wrote:grayghost4 wrote:those instruction are very clear ... except I would reverse steps 5 and 6 ... start at the back ... then the front comes off easily.

I'm going to do this, but not today.
I will let you know how it turns out, got to go to the hardware store and get the T10 first.
Electronics and technical stuff are learning obstacles I created over the years, unfortunately.
Right now I am learning how to use the Oracle HC452 Oral Mask, quite a change from the Airfit P10 and Dreamwear I like so much, but doable.
I'm having MOHs surgery on my nose in about 2 weeks and the doctor said I could not use a nasal mask for a month. He had no suggestions, said all his Cpap patient's go without Cpap treatment. I looked on Cpap.com and found the oral mask. Can't beat the service provided by Cpap.com.
Re: DME remote access
I had Moe's surgery on my nose a few months ago. I use the Circadian ce Sleepweaver Elan nasal mask.
I never missed a night.
