Australia -Insurance Claim Denied -Accidental water damage

Post by greenwaynegreen » Sun Oct 16, 2016 5:42 am

Hi all, I have been reading the forums for many hours now. Wow - So much new info.
Anyhow I went to the hospital on Tuesday in a Ambulance and my wife packed my Resmed Autoset S9 into the carry bag...
Thank you but she didn't empty the water out.
My S9 is at Resmed getting looked at... Not much hope.
My insurance company Westpac insurance says that I am not covered for "accidental damage" so bad luck.
They do cover for "accidental damage" on a mobile phone and many other things but not Cpap machines.
I asked for this to be raised to a higher level and still no go... "Bad luck chum"
Has anyone else had this experience and gotten around the "Bad luck chum" line from their insurance company?
Kind Regards
Wayne

Worst case ....buy one on Austrailia Craigslist (if there is one).....S9s are available in US for $200 and under.

It won't help you this time, but here is what I recommend to prevent this kind of thing from happening.

Create a full packing list for your CPAP. Mention that the water chamber must be empty. Make sure every component needed is listed. Keep this list in the carry bag, and make sure that your next of kin, roommate, neighbor, etc. are aware of this. Also, this list will help you pack for vacation (for instance, you wouldn't want to forget the power-cord ofr the face cushion).

I keep a spare, DRY water chamber in the bag--right where the machine would go.
If I cannot do my own packing, pulling the wet tank is obvious.
I also keep a spare (clean) mask in a ziploc bag in the case as well.
[[[Maybe I'll stick a spare hose in there too.]]]
