New To CPAP Talk .. And Thanks !!

Post by Longfellow » Fri Oct 14, 2016 12:15 pm

Hi all,

I've been CPAP-ing for about 2 years (somewhat in cruise control), but recently discovered this forum.
I've learned so much in the past couple weeks from looking at posts here (thanks all !) Thought it was time to join in the fun !

The first thing I learned is: I need to download and set up SleepyHead (this weekend !!!)

I have a PR 560P set APAP, range 6 to 18. My mask is Res Med Quattro Air FFM.
I've been relying on reports from the DME (the company begins with an 'A') and they've been a source of frustration/confusion for me.

My question is about AHI. Their reports say I have an average AHI 0f 6.8, over the last 90 days.
My machine displays nightly AHI readings in the 4 to 7 range, as one of the few displays that the PR machine has.

The PR System One owner's manual I have, states the AHI reading on the machine is 'the nightly AHI value for the most recent 1 day timeframe'.
'It also displays the average of these individual nightly AHI values over a 7 day and a 30 day timeframe'.
It has a one day, 7 day, and 30 day display.

Question: Is the PR machine and report the 'AHI value' for the entire night's average, or for an hourly average ?

This value seems (to me) to be used in both an hourly and nightly contexts, in various threads here. what's the standard ?
The DME said my 6.8 number was hourly, but I'm not sure about that.....

Thanks all, and yes I will load up Sleepy Head !!

AHI is an average. events divided by hours used.

Yours is too high.

If you have been using CPAP on a regular basis for 2 years, you are not getting the proper therapy. You should be averaging <2. It might be as simple as increasing your minimum pressure a little, but, we can't tell without seeing some Sleepyhead data.

Thanks for the help, will get Sleepyhead going.

DME 90 day average report says:

Auto CPAP mean pressure : 7.8 cm H2O
Auto CPAP Peak Average Pressure : 10.8 cm H2O
Average Pressure <= 90% of time: 9.7 cm H2O
