The filters on these machines are pretty rudimentary. They only strain out lint and cat hair. I'm going on 6 years on the original filter that came with my S9 Autoset. From time to time, like just now, I remove the filter and wash it out in the sink with dishwashing detergent, then rinse thoroughly and shake dry. The filters don't seal tightly to the housing, so lots of stuff can get past them. I think the purpose of the filter is more to keep the blower impeller from collecting stray hairs (my blonde wife sheds something awful) and binding it up than it is to provide the user with particulate-free air.

The S9 Autoset doesn't seem to care how much the filter is plugged up. My Intellipap, on the other hand, blinks and displays a message to tell you that the filter is clogged. Same thing with it, though. Just rinse the filter out with soapy water, shake dry and good to go.

I find the hypo filters help reduce my allergies.
Like several sneezes worth.

These CPAP.com ones are thin like to sheets of material placed on top of each other with nothing in the middle to filter anything extra out.
the plain filters are thick and course, the hypo filters are thin and very fine.

But if you remove a dirty filter from an S9, you'll see a ring of dirt left behind around the perimeter of where the filter contacted the case. So a lot of air is getting past the filter at that point, leaving dirt behind.

Do what you want. I've never had a problem with filters, and I think the water in the reservoir catches a lot of it anyway. I'm just saying that the design of the filter retainer doesn't make it essential to spend a lot of money on replaceable filters. Just my opinion. And opinions are like Priuses in Southern California. Everyone has one. Can't count the times I've walked up to a white Prius, grabbed the door handle and DIDN"T hear the characteristic "beep-beep."

If you want to breathe clean, even HEPA-filtered air, I seem to recall seeing in-line capsule filters offered that go between the machine and the hose connection.

I use a plain filter, and then the hypo filter, and then a AB filter on the back, because allergies...

it helps my stuffed up nose.

I also get my filters off ebay, or amazon, after checking for whatever's cheapest.

Also, this company has some pricey machines. One sale, and they can probably close up shop for the year.

Maybe I should start a company that makes actual filters for CPAP machines. The quality will speak for itself. In the mean time, I have decided to pick up a couple of 1100 sf air purifiers from IQ AIR and just scrub the air in the house instead.

Scrub the house, too.
It might help, but most house "dust" is skin cells shed by the residents.
Ever see "Gallipoli"?

Genuine Redmed Hypo filters for S9/Air10

Post by beet » Sun Oct 09, 2016 6:27 pm

I extensively searched for genuine Resmed hypoallergenic filters online because the unbranded filters that Apria (my awful DME) supplied me were so thin they were transparent!

Resmed publishes filtration specifications for its filters (in the specifications section toward the end of the Resmed CPAP machine user guide). None of the third-party filters I found have any specifications, not even AG, so I don’t trust them.

I found only two suppliers for genuine Resmed hypoallergenic filters:

(1) Sleepquest charges $10 for a 2-pack, plus $7 shipping regardless of quantity. Their website shows only the standard filter, but you can order the hypoallergenic by phone.

http://shop.sleepquest.com

(2) theCPAPshop charges $120 for a 50-pack ($2.40 each). Smaller quantities are not available for the genuine filters.

As reported earlier, I have allergy problems, and I had better results with Resmed filters. Palerider made the assumption it was a placebo effect. So, I had family members switch out different filters at different times without my knowledge. The final result was that Resmed brand filters and AG Industries HYPOALLERGENIC filters had similar results. Poorer results with the standard AG filters and cheapos bought on Ebay. That said, I only seem to have this problem in the summer and now that the windows are closed up, I'll go back to my cheap filters. Since Lincare warehouse will not provide the AG industries Hypoallergenic filters, I'll just get the Resmed brand ones at the office for summer.

I mention AG Industries since they seem to be a major supplier of knockoff filters for xpap machines carried by medical supply houses. I'm sure you would do fine with a random Ebay Hypoallergenic filter as well.
