Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
Hello, I'm an OTR truck driver suffering from sleep apnea. My Resmed Auto M series cpap machine seems to be on its last leg so to speak. Just recently it would not start and was flashing SERVICE REQUIRED. I was able to bypass this by going into the settings and changing a setting that wouldn't effect my sleep.
As a truck driver I do not have the luxury of being able to go somewhere and get this fixed. So I would most appreciate it if you guys could recommend a good durable cpap for travel.
Thanks!

Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
I would probably get a resmed s9 autoset from craigslist.

Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
Are you going to be buying it privately and paying for it out of your own pocket or are you planning on using insurance?

Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
I'm on an HSA type plan. So I'll most likely have to pay through the account and submit the bill.Pugsy wrote:Are you going to be buying it privately and paying for it out of your own pocket or are you planning on using insurance?
Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
Btw, I will be getting my current cpap fixed and will keep with me as a backup. My biggest fear out here is my cpap dying on me and having to drive

the s9 autoset or air10 autoset would both be a huge step up for you.

Once you get the new one, have the old one fixed, if possible. Having a spare is important. Also use it (or run it without using it) every so often.kewphotog wrote:Hello, I'm an OTR truck driver suffering from sleep apnea. Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
Klv329, if you want your HSA to reimburse for a machine,
the purchase needs to be from a commercial vendor. This may not be the case on CL.
A receipt from a private individual might not be accepted for reimbursement.
Cpap.com, or secondwindcpap.com receipts would be more acceptable.
My HSA reimbursed me for a Zeo I bought from cpap.com.

Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
Agreed, but I think you mean the insurance wont cover the CL purchase and credit it to the deductible and out of pocket limits.
The HSA does what you want it do do, and income tax consequences may follow if not used for qualified medical expenses. Or should I say my HSA does whatever I want it to do?
But insurance....that's another economic decision.
That lightly used s9 autoset 20 minutes away for $125 sure looks good to me...Maybe there is a similar deal where the OP might be located.
And with the saved money, I can get the DC adapter.

Re: Truck driver needs new Cpap asap
If the OP decides to go the Craig's List route; he should prepare to judge the machine's condition based on real data and not ad-speak.klv329 wrote: That lightly used s9 autoset 20 minutes away for $125 sure looks good to me...Maybe there is a similar deal where the OP might be located.
1) download the proper secret handshake to get into the Clinician Menu for the machine he will be looking at.
2) be prepared to deal with the seller at a location where he can power up the machine - a Starbucks comes to mind.
3) ask members here for specific things he should look at in assessing the "lightly used" claim and the overall condition.
In short, fact-check the claims and be prepared to walk away if the machine doesn't pass muster. If the seller is too thin skinned to accept your assessment, too bad - it's your health at risk, not the seller's
