Hi all. I'm new to getting my sleep apnea treated and have been using a Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV model for 5 days. The therapy is going great with this device for me. I sleep much better and it deals with my complex apnea successfully. However, I have to say that the device is very loud when in ASV mode. It is so loud that my wife and I can no longer sleep together which is a very big, real-world bummer.
The Resmed technical specifications [here](http://www.resmed.com/us/en/healthcare- ... 0-asv.html) seem to indicate that the device will put out either 26 or 36 decibels (the distinction between the two is unclear to me). But the device puts out more like 45-50 decibels on inhalation for me. I was hoping that the device was defective or that I would have some remedy so I tried working withe the local medical device company, the sleep lab, and I called Resmed twice. After much passing the buck, Resmed finally pointed out to me that despite the device being an ASV device, the specified noise levels for when the ASV device is used in CPAP mode. They choose not to tell me what the sound level should be when used in ASV mode.
I think it is a shortcoming of Resmed to create a new ASV device and then publish favorable sound levels for a mode that it is not likely to be used in. On top of that, they do not publish the actual sound levels for the mode that users will have bought the device for. So I am publishing this note here both as a warning and to potentially save some research time for other ASV users wrestling with this problem.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Noise Levels
I have found that the S9 Adapt ASV is somewhat louder on inhale that a cpap or vpap.
Part of the higher noise level is in the hose and mask, and is also due to the higher pressure usually used with an ASV
I have not measured the db level ... don't have a meter.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Noise Levels
I currently own and use (2) ResMed Aircurve 10 ASV's in ASV Mode. One Unit is in California, the other unit I use at my home in SE Asia. I hear no noise from either unit. Very rarely, I will wake up to a noise because the unit is fully cranked-up to tackle a strong event. I do not use a humidifier on either unit. Maybe your unit will be quieter without the humidifier? I suggest you go to your DME and ask for the optional side-plate to replace your humidifier.

I had a customer a few days ago, his blower on his new machine was a little noisier than normal. We replaced it under warranty. He said he he thought the noise was normal but luckily a relative has a unit too he could compare it too. Sounds like a trip to your supplier is due.

I also use a Standard Hose on both ASV devices. Not a Slim Line. Is the Hose Setting in your device correct?

If you can't find relief by putting the machine in a drawer or putting a cozy on the hose then try these:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
