Newbie Question, Please
Hi. I'm not able to sleep in my very favorite postions due to the mask and tubing. I'm very willing to put up with this change if I can resolve my sleep apnea. I generally need 8 hrs sleep.
My question: If I sleep like 6 hrs with the machine then take it off and kind of lounge around, maybe doze for another 1-2 hrs. in my favorite postions (mostly stomache-like), is that OK?
Thanks much!

Re: Newbie Question, Please
id say its not really ok. in those two hours, you could have a lot of events - what was your ahi before treatment? because thats how many times youd be stopping breathing. and thats going to undo the benefit of the treated time you get - you'd be more likely to wake up with a headache, for example (plus still getting the long term consequences too). you say you're willing to put up with new sleeping positions, so i would strongly advise you to do that. why risk anything else, if you are tolerating treatment well?
also what positions do you feel you can no longer sleep in - they may still be possible, ie look up 'the falcon' if its sleeping on your front.

Re: Newbie Question, Please
Hi, Google Hose Buddy - it's a way to keep the hose away while you sleep. Others have also rigged different ways of dealing with it... attached loosely to the headboard, or even a ceiling hook. I sleep on my front but have cut a chunk out of my memory foam mattress for the mask - kind of like a massage table set up... the hose runs to the head of the mattress (the chunk is 1' long towards my feet, 3" wide with rounded edges - elec. carving knife - and 3-4" deep). My machine's on a shelf level with the bed so the hose (I use two connected short ones) goes to the machine and I tend to not turn over all night. The thing is that my mask's vent is also higher on the mask than most, so doesn't get blocked at the elbow by the foam.

Re: Newbie Question, Please
It's the mask, not the hose, that's preventing me from my best positions (1/2 stomache and side)
What is "the Falcon" as you suggested. Couldn't find it Thank you.

Re: Newbie Question, Please
Google (Images) Falcon sleeping position - I guarantee you'll find it. And also look up Cpappillow.com... it has cutouts for masks for side sleepers.
And read my note again - I did what I did to the mattress (as a stomach sleeper) to accommodate the mask, no other reason.

Re: Newbie Question, Please
You might want to try "nasal pillows" instead of a mask. That way, you might be able to sleep in the position that you want.

and just how would that make a difference?D.H. wrote:You might want to try "nasal pillows" instead of a mask. That way, you might be able to sleep in the position that you want.

Re: Newbie Question, Please
Sometimes, the mask just gets in the way. Nasal pillows take up less room and might not interfere with the position described.palerider wrote:and just how would that make a difference?D.H. wrote:You might want to try "nasal pillows" instead of a mask. Wouldn't it be prudent to ask what mask he was using? Maybe he is already using pillows.D.H. wrote:Sometimes, the mask just gets in the way. so, basically, as with almost all of what you write, there's no meaning whatsoever, just a guess, just a 'maybe'.D.H. wrote:Sometimes, the mask just gets in the way. that would require several things DunderHead is incapable of.LSAT wrote:Wouldn't it be prudent to ask what mask he was using? 1) thinking,
2) actually trying to help
3) investigating the problem
far easier to just crap out some words and move on.
