Can you guess which nights I taped across my mouth?

Post by yaconsult » Sun Sep 11, 2016 5:49 pm

Here is the difference taping across my mouth makes for me when using the AirFit P10. Can you guess which nights I taped?

Image

Yes, it's the nights with no leaks at all!

Now, I guess all the leaks above are "acceptable", but they can still be annoying, can't they? And if they wake you up, then it's a problem. If your mouth gets so dry that it wakes you up, then it's a problem.

I found out that they have the tape at Walmart for much cheaper than Amazon. At Walmart, it's called Nexcare Gentle Paper Tape and they sell two 10 yard rolls for $3.27: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nexcare-Gent ... s/19898482 Inside the rolls, it says 3M Micropore, so it's the genuine item. I probably use 3 to 4 inches each night to tape across my mouth sideways.

So if you are having problems with mouth breathing that is waking you up at night and feels like you have the desert in your mouth, taping can be very effective.

Yep, tape saves me. Thought about embarking on a mouth closing lip closing adventure this morning, but...I have tried and filed before.

And of course if I don't use it the leaks come when I need the asv pressure the most.

I use the durapore from Walmart because it seems to take off less skin and is easier to pull off.

The micropore is pretty thin and made me feel like I should leave an end of it pinched so I could pull it off easier.

I agree. It's much easier to remove the tape if you fold over one corner on itself when putting it on. Or even folding over a strip on the end. As long as you are careful to not touch the main sticky part, because it only sticks ONCE. I am just happy that it is so cheap at Walmart. I have found that rolling my lips inward make it easier to get the tape in the right place.

Hey - I'm finally clueing in to possibly using the tape after watching the LankyLefty's youtube take on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D45Fmzcty8E - I'm wondering if it will allow me to stop using my chinstrap all together. My hunch is the chinstrap still provides most of the structural "squeeze" which would lessen the workload on the microtape...but I'll have to experiment.

Do folks ever use lip masks?

Turn it in to a positive?
That LeftyLanky video was brutal.

At least make it like a spa treatment?

An intense hydrating mask that plumps up the lips, reduces fine lines, wrinkles around the mouth and leaves the lips moist, smooth and supple. Contains marine collagen, Hyaluronic acid, arubtin, mountain lily extract, white tea extract and vitamin E

karl, my chinstrap works for me. My S9 Resmed Autoset machine was not effected and did diagnosed even when my mouth leaks reached almost 40 L/Min at 12.30 AM. So I don't need to tape my lips:

Hey Grace! I clicked and it sure is something to research. How well it stays on the lips, etc.

Thanks Lucy

~~~at the very least I'd like to protect (and condition) my lips and just tape over this little "lip mask"?
Though it probably adheres somewhat?
I just did a copy of the photo and added to the link a Image after it:
But a tape is not going to work for me b/c I lick my lips during the night.
OMG SH!!!!
AVI!!! Thank you. You taught me something!
Thank you so much!
(hopefully ... it will work when I hit submit?)
I didn't even want to tape my mouth but now I want to try these and get fabulous lips!
Even if I don't need it for cpap?
You do not need to use a chinstrap if you tape properly. The tape alone is enough to ensure that your lips stay together. The keys are getting the right tape and applying it properly without touching the parts above and below the lips - touch it only at the ends and make it long enough that the ends are beyond the ends of your lips. Don't try to re-position the tape, because it only sticks once - rip off a new piece and try again instead.
I find it easiest to apply the tape while looking in the mirror and sucking my lips in gives me a nice straight line to apply the tape to. This specific tape grips the skin better than you might think and you don't need to worry about keeping your chin up. Holding your lips together will automatically keep your chin up. This is the specific tape that works like magic - 3M Micropore paper tape: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nexcare-Gent ... s/19898482 Assuming that you use 6 inches of tape each night, the $3.50 package will last you 120 days / 4 months.
Those "lip masks" cost $8.00 for three nights worth!
Turns out there are a bunch of lip masks that give you soft and sensual lips (and may keep air from rushing out of your mouth?)
Definitely pricier than tape.
100% for sure the common sense version is tape.
...but lip masks are probably not a common sense item under any circumstance, really.
Use during cpap might be their highest and best possibility of existence?
(and they do exist)
It looks like the silicone ones can be used multiple times after washing?
I know I used silicone pads on my scars and I was able to wash and reuse each piece for 7-10 days before they lost their "silicone sticky". 182 staples on that last surgery meant a LOT of scar silicone for me.
Actually that might be another option? Scar silicone?
...but the lip masks are just so CUTE!
And it would be a lot of work cutting lips in to scar silicone or tape.
