OSA and ADHD together ?
OSA and ADHD together ?
Severely untreated OSA is what I have since probably 10 years, and since 5 months on CPAP I tend to blame on OSA my problems with concentration, memory, energy, fogginess, low thinking speed. People here have sometime called me crazy when I linked every complaints with oxygen or CPAP machine.
Now, when my GP comments that I seem to be chaotic, and push me towards ADHD, it seems my eyes get opened: I could blame my concentration problem and forgetfulness to ADHD as well:
- I jump between tasks very very frequently and endlessly, I remember doing this as a child, and now at age 3x-4x I use my "busy-ness" (switch to do another task) to make an excuse to my mind that I don't want to do what I am supposed to, or planned to do.
- I don't know where I spent time, while look back to last week, or at the end of a day.
- It seems my concept of time is different from the averaged health folks, as described here http://untappedbrilliance.com/why-does- ... ment-46028
- I often forget appointments
- I am very frequently late at appointments, by underestimating the time needed to travel and to deal with anomalies
- I am often late at deadlines
- Last, but not least: I score 16 over 21 on this ADHD checklist http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/1041.html
Now for constant fatigue and being out of energy at 21:00, I am being diagnosed of a mental burnout: whether or not I tend to think too much: to constantly think and not let my mind be at rest. If this is true that I have a restless mind, then it seems I have a mental ADHD, not a physical (muscle) ADHD.
Of course symptomps of OSA and ADHD overlap alot, but the fact that I jump between tasks endlessly has started long long before OSA.

Re: OSA and ADHD together ?
I wrote this post as an ending part of a procrastination period of 1h15 min, when I switched to do something else to avoid having to prepare for my interview next week. Thanks to Gleeo Time Tracking on Android, now I know how much time I use per day to avoid the plans.

Re: OSA and ADHD together ?
Why don't you get meds for the ADHD?
I've been on them for a while (tho' my hair falls out!) and they make a big difference to life - tho' ADD was never a problem, the HD part always has been.
There comes a time when blaming it for everything gets old, esp. if you're old yourself, and you need to get help and start living like a responsible person.

What if a Doc decides to put you on medications such as RITALIN which also makes you sick?

Re: OSA and ADHD together ?
I've only read on ADHD myself, while waiting to be diagnosed by some psychologist and then a psychiatrist. It could be 6 - 8 more weeks before I know what medicine I will take.Julie wrote:Why don't you get meds for the ADHD?

I need to teach myself enough on this then.avi123 wrote:What if a Doc decides to put you on medications such as RITALIN which also makes you sick?
Doctors can be very careless, as one psychiatrist here has pointed out http://programmers.stackexchange.com/qu ... h-add-adhd

Re: OSA and ADHD together ?
It seems next to these 2 enemies, I also have a psychological problem: putting a biased and unrealistic high expectation on myself.
My close friend, who learnt that I post on cpaptalk.com instead of preparing on my interview, has analyzed that
- I don't need to be worried for that interview like that. The interviewers should not expect too much from me, and the fact that they have selected me for an interview has shown that they did like me.
- This is yet another example that I view myself differently from what other people see me.
Luckily, I am being helped by a psychology, and luckily I am helped by this close friend of mine.
Phew, I feel more positive now.

Don't listen to Avi - he's a nut and Ritalin is no worse than other ADHD meds!

Actually, you know, I'm starting to feel bad about my snarky comments to Avi... yes, he gets a lot wrong (like I'm so perfect ) but obviously does have some ?? cognitive issues or else just misunderstands lots of things and I'm not sure being mean helps anything... he does try to be helpful and does know some stuff... I think I'll lay off except when he gives newbies really misleading info.

I've got enormous sympathy for those dealing with dementia and losing their minds...Julie wrote:Actually, you know, I'm starting to feel bad about my snarky comments to Avi... yes, he gets a lot wrong (like I'm so perfect ) but obviously does have some ?? cognitive issues or else just misunderstands lots of things and I'm not sure being mean helps anything... he does try to be helpful and does know some stuff... except when they're spreading it on the internet, and screwing with peoples minds as a result, and possibly sending folks off on wild goose chases, or worse.

Mmm, yeah, but it's all part of the same pkge of course... I wonder if impatience and anger are of much use... certainly they don't seem to have made a difference. Too bad we can't be in touch with famiiles, etc. to talk about things sometimes.

I think he is lonely. This may be the only human contact he has, outside of wherever he is living.
Since this is the "internet", he may not always realize how dangerous guesses and out of date information can be.
I would hope he means no harm--but he still can do plenty.
Please, Avi, when you are tired and confused, try playing cards, just not for money.

Like having Sleep Apnea, it does pay to make the best choices you can, it may not seem like fun, but life will be smoother. JimJulie wrote:Why don't you get meds for the ADHD?
