Fisher & Paykel Eson vs. Philips Wisp

Post by Andrew08 » Mon Sep 12, 2016 8:59 am

Hi guys, still relatively new to CPAP, trying to determine what mask is right for me. Have somewhat narrowed it down to Fisher & Paykel Eson or Philips Wisp. Can anyone educate me as to which one worked for them and why?

Thanks!
Andrew

I find the Eson mask works fine for me because it has the two straps that go around the head. There is not much room for it to slide any where. I have not tried the Philips Wisp, but have tried other minimal contact nasal masks and they leaked too much for me. I did not stay with the Eson either because I wear glasses after I take my contact lenses off and like to read in bed before dropping off to sleep. I could not wear them with the Eson. I am now using the Dreamwear and have been for over month. It is working very well for me

I can tell you which one worked best for me, but that is not an indication of what will work best for you!

Choice of mask is a very personal one. It depends on your face and nose, and on other personal factors.

The one tip I can give you is that I was having an allergic reaction to the part of the mask that form the seal (several types of masks). I found that soaking it in 50% vinegar solution for two hours prior to first use solved that issue.

I like Fisher & Paykel Simplus: easy cleaning without inner support and outer flexible mask, very light, very good seal without excessively tight straps for headgear, and able to sleep on both sides and back. This is the 5th mask I tried. Nose hoses didn't work for me due to mouth breathing.

As you know, what works for one person may not work for another. So it is important to keep bugging your DME provider to try different makes and models.

Also, very important your machine settings are customized to you, also. Took 3 or 4 visits to get minimum and maximums set right for me.

One thing for sure, it is very much worth your persistence to have sound, restful sleep.
