My mask was making a weird noise last night

Post by mrshickadance9 » Wed Aug 24, 2016 12:54 pm

I've been using the Amara View mask for the last two weeks, and so far it's been pretty good. Last night, though, I woke up hearing a weird noise every time i would breathe in. I was able to get a video of it which is on youtube

It almost sounds like water is hitting something inside the mask when i breathe in. I did turn the humidity up to 7 from 6 last night. Could it be that? I washed it this morning so hopefully it doesn't happen again tonight!

YES, there was water in your hose. Could you have filled the tank too full? If possible try to set your machine below your bed.

It could have been you raising the humidity to 7, try playing around with the settings, go back to 6 and see if it still does it. Next night try 7-8 and see what happens...trial & error is what I did and also I found that if I put just a drop more water than the fill line I get the same rain-out...

Yes, and it probably will continue unless you adjust your HH settings (lower) or figure out how to keep the hose from getting too cold. It's called "rainout" and the warm moist water vapor is condensing back into liquid form in your (cooler) hose and mask.

The heated hose, if you have one, can reduce or eliminate rainout. A hose cover can also help.

The other thing that I learned recently was that this can happen if the exhaust vents for your mask become clogged or aren't working.

Welp. I feel dumb asking about this, in hindsight. As a fan of science an physics.... i should have thought about this. I blame my sleepiness!

Thanks everyone
