Heat/Storage
Re: Heat/Storage
I agree with use the cooler with an ice pack. I also wouldn't leave electronics in the car, BUT, you have some risk of forgetting it in the locker. If you do use a locker, be sure to write a note that you will see when you get into the car. I've never been to AZ, but things bake pretty well at JPL and stuff stayed good in the cooler WITH the ice pack. The further problem is that you are always at risk of thieves at those amusement parks.

I wonder if anybody has considered how jam packed the modern cars are with electronics.

My mobile cpap not.
Re: Heat/Storage
and, just what would those changes in 'electronics' be? given that the electronics in your cpap were likely soldered in a reflow oven, where they preheat for a couple of minutes at 300f and then ramp up to around 430f to flow the solder.Guest wrote:Another good point.palerider wrote:I wonder if anybody has considered how jam packed the modern cars are with electronics.

please explain how the likely 150f in the car is going to bother 'the electronics', please.
keeping in mind that the specs posted so far for cpaps say that extended storage at 140f is just fine.

Re: Heat/Storage
In my 21 years living in Phoenix, the temp in my truck has never come close to 140f. If I have to park in the sun, I crack the back Windows a tad before locking it up. That way it doesn't turn into a pressure cooker. BTW that is more for my comfort getting back into the truck than for any electronics in the truck.
Leaving something on a seat so direct sun can hit it has a better chance of having the truck broken into to be stolen, so unwise for different reasons.

Resistor,
Glad it all worked out for you!
I agree with Palerider ... besides ... I have left my laptop in the truck, beside the cpap, no troubles either ... gps and dash cams still work ... amature radio too!
While vibrations may cause some troubles to show up sooner ... I have a CB radio that I bought in 1990 ... has a few million miles on it, been left in the truck all closed up many times still works like new!

Re: Heat/Storage
This was a good post with lots of information. I've often wondered about the temp issues myself.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: Heat/Storage
It's useful to know the electronics are less sensitive to heat that I had thought.
In regard to plastic components, I would defer to the manual for a particular machine.
I am old enough to remember pastic things turning into abstract art in a hot car,
sometimes even accessories to the car. To think what manufacturers got away with then!

it's always safest to defer to the manual for storage and operating parameters.chunkyfrog wrote:In regard to plastic components, I would defer to the manual for a particular machine.

In regards to plastics, that's a surprisingly involved subject. there's a guy in BC Canada that has an entertaining channel (if you appreciate the humor of someone very smart acting goofy) who has a series of youtube videos he's done titled "BOLTR: Bored Of Lame Tool Reviews" where instead of just unboxing something and using it, he tears it to bits and critiques the build quality all the way through.
One of the things he does is examine the type and composition of the plastics, starting with the type codes that are often molded into parts. If that fails, he breaks out his soldering iron and starts seeing at what temp that particular plastic melts at, to get an idea what it is.
then he'll scrap it with a knife, and that's where I learned that many of the plastics produced today have glass fiber reinforcement, and in some cases, glass ball reinforcement, fibers to enhance the tensile strength of the plastic, and balls to increase it's compressive strength, depending on what forced the part will be subjected to. there was one part that had one type of reinforcement on one end of the part and the other on the other end of it, though I don't remember what it came out of.
the long and the short of it, there are plastics that will melt in a hot car, and plastics that won't melt in a pool of liquid solder... interesting stuff
