Cpap mask for small faces

Post by lhasataxes4u@gmail.com » Wed Aug 03, 2016 8:08 am

I am having some issues with my masks. I have been using a Wisp mask which was ok, except I breath through my mouth some and I have to have it tight or it leaks. I just got a Mirage Quatro and it leaks everywhere and leaves marks from being so tight.

I have a very small face and profound cheek bones. I can handle the mouth breathing every so often, but these marks are crazy. They even cut my skin.

I just don't know what to do and will be calling my provider today, but wanted to get some good ideas on what people use.

I've never used the Wisp or the Mirage Quatro, so can't comment on either one. You might try PadACheek.com. The owner, Karen, is a member here so knows all about what helps to make a particular mask work for you. You can do a search here (top of the first page) for PadACheek.com.

That said... I use a small in every mask I've ever used. Also, small pillows. What has worked best for me is the Airfit P10 and the Dreamwear mask. I mostly use the P10. It's more comfortable for me... very little touches the face so there really isn't anything that can cut your skin. It seems to be a favorite here.

Best of luck finding the right mask.

I'm a wisp user.

It was OK for the first month but when I tried bumping up my minimum and max pressure, just like you, I was getting leaks which woke me up. The immediate solution for me back then was to tighten it and, if my nose bridge starts to get wounded/scarred, I start using home made pads.

From my experience, the wisp is a good mask because it was less obstructive on the face. However, for higher pressures, it's a bit hard to get the right tightness.

I'm now using the wizard 2q0 mask from APEX and seem to be working for me in higher pressures compared to the wisp. I reckon the brace on the forehead helps a lot.

I believe our forum sponsor, https://www.cpap.com, has a return policy. Would be best to try several masks to get your perfect fit.

Try the "For Her" version, some masks come in a smaller "For Her" size. I have the Resmed FX Nano For Her, with a size small nasal piece. I also have the Pad A Cheeks covers for the straps and Pad a cheek mask liner, which take up some room and make it seem smaller.
The Dreamwear also comes in a smaller size headgear.

You should tell us what size Quattro you are using.

It sounds like you are adjusting the straps too tight. Here are some tips on adjustments and preventing leaks:
- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.
