Hi. I am bugo and I live in the midwestern US. I was diagnosed today with obstructive sleep apnea. The test results were provided to me and I quit breathing 20 times an hour for more than 10 seconds during normal sleep and 101.4 times an hour during R.E.M. sleep. I understand that 100 times an hour is high. I will hopefully be getting my machine in the next few days and hoping it works because I have felt this way most of my life and I am ready to quit feeling this way.

Welcome! Work all your issues here and BE SURE you get a data-capable machine. You'll more than like get conned into taking a non-data-capable machine... so beware!

Welcome
You might want to read this

My OSA is also much worse in REM stage sleep...it's fairly common.
I would strongly suggest that you educate yourself on the models of machines and get a machine that has auto adjusting pressure mode (commonly called an apap machine) available.
The reason being is that sometimes a lot more pressure is needed to deal with those stubborn REM stage sleep events and at other times during the night your pressure needs aren't so high.
You want a machine that can do both...lower pressure when lower works and higher pressure only when needed.

Many of us found that the kind of mask we use had a lot to do with how well the therapy worked. There are nasal masks, mouth masks, full-face masks, nasal pillows, and probably others I've never heard of. One or the other might be much better FOR YOU than the others. Experiment!

Welcome , The folks here are great. A couple of hints the folks helped me : mask too hot 81 degrees , you can change the temp, feels like you cant breathe, I stopped the ramp time and adjusted the pressure from 4 to 6. I have an resmed autosense 10. Read the manual and adjustments . Try different settings each machine is different. Don't give up this treatment will save your life. I am new to this since april 13 this year. The folks here will help you . It can take one week to months to get used to the treatment.

Welcome to the forum. You can get a lot of help here, but you must learn to take some of the comments with a grain of salt. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who want to help you. Some of them tend to get a little brusk with people that ask the same questions over and over and refuse to follow the suggestions people give them. You will soon learn who the helpers are, and who the ones that like to post things that offer absolutely help at all are.

Welcome to CPAPtalk. Here's a good 'sticky' or permanent thread to read thru, plus the two Pugsy mentioned up above:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Welcome to the "party".
It could be a pajama party, but we come as we are.

Did you get any weather yesterday? There were tornadoes both to the north and to the south of me.Okie bipap wrote:There seem to be several of us from the Oklahoma City area that are members of the forum.
There's an old joke that goes: When somebody from the other 49 states hears a tornado siren, they run to the basement. When somebody from Oklahoma hears one, they run outside to look at the sky. This is actually true. When the sirens went off yesterday, I grabbed my camera and ran outside. I didn't get any spectacular video but I did get some nice cloud formations.
