My dog whimpers in sleep too. I imagine she's chasing the squirrel that just got away.
The only instructions were given over the phone by a tech. I didn't see the doc today, but a nurse felt sorry for me and got the script while I was there making the payment. The instructions were to avoid caffeine and to take a shower and wash hair and arrive with dry hair. Nothing much else.
Is there something else I should know? I have someone dropping me off and picking me up in case I'm too sleepy after the Ambien. I'm going to take comfortable clothes and flip flops and socks and a book. Probably a toothbrush, etc.

Wishing you good luck. On the cats, there was a thread a year or two ago started by someone whose cats chewed the hose. I think the cats were kittens and thought it a good toy. Also, some cats chew electric cords. So during the day keep things out of reach until you know if those kitties even care about it.
Re: Questioning Home Sleep Study/Scheduled Overnight
Yes, no caffeine the day of the test, eat a light supper, bring any meds you take in the evening and ask when you should take them. Expect to turn off your cell phone early. They let me watch TV until around 11pm but I told them I am used to going to bed around 1am and thought TV would help me settle in. I woke up around 6am to go to the bathroom and they had to come in to disconnect me first. They said they recorded enough time and I could go home. I was able to drive myself but I didn't take any sleeping meds.
Good luck,
Dani

Re: Questioning Home Sleep Study/Scheduled Overnight
Please be assured that with an in-lab sleep study they know for sure when you are sleeping and when you are not. Why? Because of all those sensors they attached all over your body. They are recording your brain activity, your breathing, your chest movement, your heartbeat, your oxygenation, your leg movement, etc.. Some people swear that they did not sleep a single second but the recorded data shows otherwise. And, no, they don't mix up the patients and their data - it's all recorded by an automated system. Many sleep studies also record a video of your bed the entire time you are sleeping. Did you notice a camera in the ceiling? I did.

Re: Questioning Home Sleep Study/Scheduled Overnight
Well, Ambien doesn't work for me. I laid there hours after taking it. They finally switched the mask after I asked. Should have asked sooner. The one that covers your nose was so uncomfortable. After he switched it to one that goes under the nose I fell asleep for about 2 hours (according to the tech). I woke up holding the mask in my hands and the guy asking me over the intercom what's wrong. Well, I was out of it and wanted that fast-blowing thing off my face!
He turned the air down so I could go back to sleep, but later told me he turned it back up once I got back to sleep. He said I needed high pressure, esp when sleeping on my back. I don't have the full report or anything, but have been scheduled for a class to get my machine in two weeks.
So, not much sleep, but apparently it was enough for them. I just really am not good at falling asleep with sensors under my eyes and gunk in my hair, etc. Maybe under normal circumstances Ambien would work. Last night, it was not any help.
Yes, there was a camera. Looked like a ball. I'm going to wash the glue out of my hair and then decide whether I will sleep or try to stay awake until tonight. Looks like I will get my machine in time to take with me on my flight to California next month. I guess I'll have to since my insurance requires compliance for three months before they will buy you a machine. I find that funny as my insurance covered hearing aids without making me rent them first!

Re: Questioning Home Sleep Study/Scheduled Overnight
In my opinion (as a nobody), the fact that you did eventually sleep for two hours may mean that the Ambien could have helped some. The main thing is that you slept, either way.moonslice wrote: Well, Ambien doesn't work for me. I laid there hours after taking it. They finally switched the mask after I asked. A natural reaction for the first night. Eventually, for many of us, we eventually come to deeply appreciate and actually crave that thing on our face.moonslice wrote:I woke up holding the mask in my hands and the guy asking me over the intercom what's wrong. Congratulations on a successful titration study!
May this forum be of help to you in your making your CPAP use as healthy and refreshing as possible.

Yeah, I was wondering if the fact that I eventually went to sleep meant that the Ambien did work, but wasn't sure since I didn't sleep until about three hours after taking it.
Thanks. I am relieved that I eventually did sleep.
