Trip to Costa Rica

Post by SmokeChaser426 » Sun Jul 10, 2016 12:14 pm

I am interested in getting some travel advice from the group. I have already called the airlines to notify them that I will be traveling with a CPAP machine. They said that someone will call and go over procedures. I have a good compact case that should work well carrying everything around.

Do I need to have a "Medical Equipment" tag on that case ?

Because it is a medical device it is not considered a carry on bag ?

I was thinking of putting each component in a zipper top bag to keep clean... thoughts ?

How about a copy of the prescription the Dr. gave me for the CPAP machine and usage ?

I have been reading info on the internet and everyone has their own thoughts on what the travel requirements are. I am not going to need to use the machine while in flight and plan on using bottled water for the humidifier.
Thought I would go to where I am sure many have traveled and would have some good comments or entertaining ones.

Thanks....

I have traveled with my cpap machine on many trips.

You can carry on the CPAP machine.

You don't need a medical equipment tag.

You don't need to take your prescription.

It just goes through security like any other carry on.

and you can take some distilled with you tho some agents may question you on it just depends on who and their mood
just ask them to test it tell them you need some until you can get to a store and there is no guarantee the store will have any
btw there is another thread about this right now
you can search for the tsa website if you have more questions its covered under liquids

It does not count as a carry on, and you never want to check it.

Here's what I did when I recently flew from Canada to Europe.

The airline's website indicated that I needed to inform them that I was travelling with a CPAP machine, so I phoned the airline 48 hours prior to departure as per the website's instructions.

I was told by the airline that I could take it on the flight with me and it would not be "counted" toward the carry on limit.

No need for medical tags etc.

I sailed through numerous security checks, in Canada, Germany and in Malta, and no-one paid it the slightest heed.
