First night on cpap!
Just got done with my DME. At first on the phone they told me the machine I was buying was the dream station cpap. I asked if it was a auto and they said no. Had me worried for 2 weeks that I was going to get a crap machine!
Well the DME showed up with the dream station auto! So happy! She told me this is the machine I bought (after I asked her 10 times)
So all and all so far the DME hasn't been bad and I'm keeping my figures crossed.
Right now I'm on a range of basically 4 to 20 so my doc can dial in my settings.
Any tips for first night? I'm so excited to sleep for a change I don't know if I can pass out lol.

Re: First night on cpap!
Many people find it difficult to breathe with a pressure of 4. They end up feeling like they just aren't getting enough air.
You may want to consider starting at a little higher pressure... something like 8.

So basically your doctor has no idea how XPAP works, and is going to let the machine do his job for him, even if it is set to a failure range. JimAtmosphere00 wrote:Just got done with my DME. Re: First night on cpap!
They probably only have you the normal user manual....there's another manual with more information in it.
The provider/clinical manual so I suggest you go here and request a copy of that manual for your machine.
I think it is a combination manual...just scroll down the page until you find the instructions for requesting the clinical manual.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
The 4 cm might be too low in terms of comfort..it can make a person feel like they are suffocating....the 8cm suggestion may seem a bit strong but most people are good with something around 6 cm.

Re: First night on cpap!
Agreed. 4-20 is essentially useless, not therapeutic and feels like you're breathing through a skinny straw, if that. You'll need to raise the low pressure at least 2-3 cm (and likely more in time) to begin to feel at all better. Leave the high at 20 as it's not as important now and can be changed later if it matters. Not knowing more about your machine however, I hope others come along (they will) with more info to help you fix things.

Re: First night on cpap!
So ive had six days in on Auto Cpap. I did the first night on 4 to 20 but I did turn it up to 6 the next night.
Julie you were right it felt like I was breathing threw a straw.
Last night I kicked it to 6.5
everything seems to be ok. I don't notice much of a difference in myself so far but I do notice I have a lot of hypopneas. Looks like 27 last night.
Anyways ill take a screen shot when I get home tonight and see if anyone has any suggestions.
Also I guess I got lucky the DME left my the providers manual with the patient manual so if anyone needs anything out of it let me know I can take pictures of it.

Re: First night on cpap!
Turn it to 7 or 8 and get rid of the hypopneas. Don't be so cautious about 1/2 a cm - you're still at very low pressure.

You don't think the Cpap would be causing Hyponeas do you? And it doesn't mean I need a bipap or anything else right?Julie wrote:Turn it to 7 or 8 and get rid of the hypopneas. Don't be so cautious about 1/2 a cm - you're still at very low pressure.
Sorry still learning as I go.
Re: First night on cpap!
I am fairly new also and I am constantly tweaking my pressure range. Last night I changed my min. pressure to 11 and lowered my AHI to 0.51. Today I changed my max pressure to 15. It's ok to keep playing around with the settings to make it more comfortable. That is what the data is for. To make adjustments to fit your needs and make it the most efficient for you.Atmosphere00 wrote:So ive had six days in on Auto Cpap. there's another cpap board(apneaboard) who's best contribution is distributing PDFs of manuals.Atmosphere00 wrote:Also I guess I got lucky the DME left my the providers manual with the patient manual so if anyone needs anything out of it let me know I can take pictures of it.

Re: First night on cpap!
the cpap isn't causing them, but your pressure is not high enough to allow the machine to prevent more of them.Atmosphere00 wrote:You don't think the Cpap would be causing Hyponeas do you? Re: First night on cpap!
so I raised it to 8 the past 2 nights, just left the max at 20. Went from a 3.3-3.8 AHI to a 1.9
17 Hypopneas and 1 obstr last night

not bad, not bad, probably need to go to 9... but a 1.9 is in the acceptable range, as far as my own standards go.Atmosphere00 wrote:so I raised it to 8 the past 2 nights, just left the max at 20. Went from a 3.3-3.8 AHI to a 1.9
