Regarding Rumors of New Hybrid Parts
Or it's just what the Respcare guy said in his letter to Johnny. The shells are bata parts (because their selling the final version, thousands a week) and the headgear is too. How does everyone know they got the same headgear? The companies have more than a handfull of people because when you dile the mail number you get to pick from at least 25 voicemails. What do you want to bet tha they got hundreds of calls for headgear and new shells once the forum started advertising it.
Those people are so nice it's a rarity. Let's not spoil it for everyone.

Not really sure what "guest" is talkiing about. Was there a point to that comment. Not trying to be ugly, I just missed what you were trying to say. Anyway, just got my upgraded headgear for the hybrid. And, they sent me the good kind. Very much better feel. Much beefier velcro. I don't understand why they choose to use velcro for the top strap. I'm not a velcro fan. If they were to use one of those things that you see used to unite two straps that can be adjusted by pulling on both straps at the same time. You see them on backbacks and carrying case straps. Who knows what those things are called? Anyway, gonna give it a test snooze tonight.

sorry, it seems that i posted roughly the same thing twice. i have aol, which usually won't let me post, so i have to go to internet explorer to post. for some weird reason, aol let me post this time and i didn't realize it. oh, maybe it's cuz i gave them notice that i'm ending my service with them so they put me on some weird plan that will let me post here. sorry for the redundancy.

I called the customer service number yesterday and was told that they were working on new headgear which would be available for purchase in several months. I had no offer to send me one even though I mentioned that mine raised welts on my neck where it bites into the skin and also that the velcro is very frayed already. I"m glad you all got good service..sorry I didn't. I gave them several suggestions too such as making more than one size headgear so women don't have to have their eyes covered when snugging down the straps. Also why
is all headgear black? Suggested a nice pale blue, pink or lavender for ladies. Any way I guess my only option is to try to make a silk purse from this sow's ear with additional velcro. Seems that in a month's time that should not be necessary but it's that or give it up. I'm very disappointed.

hybrid mask??????????what's up
hi, just wanted to let everyone know my experience with the hybrid folks yesterday in the pm, i was told they would mail me the new headgear but that there was no new shell and the gal mentioned this forum and said "she did not know where the rumor came from that cpap talk folks were getting them.............??? just for the record this was my experience yesterday august 28th about 4pm eastern standard time
There is no difference in the curvature between the existing hybrid and the sample shell--it just looks different because the exhalation holes in the sold product are twice the size as the ones in the sample. but i have measured the width and both are 3 and 15/16 inches wide. if you measure your own, your measurement may be slightly different because i find it hard to measure a curved item. but both measurements are equally flawed in that way. the exhalation holes, on the other hand, are 1/8 of an inch each on the sold product and 1/16 of an inch on the sample.

The heavier duty headgear arrived yesterday and with a one night trial it is a much better headgear. When The original version was tightened up enough to keep the mask from sliding out of position there was no give left in the elastic. This one can be snug and there is still give in the fabric. The mask is comfortable and hope the headgear solves the leak problem.
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.....Galbraith's Law
I emailed them about various problems and got a reply the next day asking for my name address & phone number and was told they would mail me an improved headgear. I hope it solves my issues with this mask as I haven't been able to get it to work. I really had high hopes for it for the up coming hay feaver season when I can't use my Swift due to major congestion.

Interesting ... That means if anyone wants to try and see how the new/beta Hybrid shell would work on them, all they have to do is cover up three-fourths of the vent holes with masking (no pun intended) tape (that is the difference in crossflow area between 1/8 and 1/16 hole diameters). In other words, the new beta shell reduces exaust flow area to about 25% of the original mask ... based on Carolines post above.chdurie2 wrote:There is no difference in the curvature between the existing hybrid and the sample shell--it just looks different because the exhalation holes in the sold product are twice the size as the ones in the sample. but i have measured the width and both are 3 and 15/16 inches wide. if you measure your own, your measurement may be slightly different because i find it hard to measure a curved item. but both measurements are equally flawed in that way. the exhalation holes, on the other hand, are 1/8 of an inch each on the sold product and 1/16 of an inch on the sample.

Note it also assumes that both original and beta have the same number of vent holes and that only difference is the diameter size.
Caroline - could you please confirm that the number of holes is the same for both shells ... thanks.
I was actually thinking about covering up one hole at a time to try and calibrate the exhuast rate to a full face mask using the ResMed mask selection and fitting feature.

I called yesterday morning and I think I got the strory straight:
Their new improved headgear will be available in 2-3 months. They initially got a few samples of the new headgear. Obviously they cannot order thousands of the new headgear without validating the design because if it doesn't work, you have wasted so much money and time (sounds reasonable). The good news is that based on the positive feedback from a number of cpaptalk.com users, they have started to make the full production run of the new improved headgear. I got the impression that samples of the new headgear design have already been given out and no more samples exist. Those calling about the headgear will receive the current headgear as the replacement until the new headgear becomes available in production quantities in 2-3 months.

What I don't understand is how they can charge for the new headgear in 2 to 3 months when it becomes available in production quantities. The original headgear was obviously defective. There are too many people who had trouble with it for that not to be the case. I would think they would replace their defective product free of charge, which is what I thought they were doing when myself and others on here got the new and improved headgear in the last week or so.
Those of you who haven't been able to get the new headgear, it really does work. Once it becomes available, I would really push for a free replacement since the original does not work.

roberto and others:
the shell sample has six holes, just as the regular one does, and each hole in the shell sample is twice the size of the ones in the regular shell. By my calculations, that means the shell sample reduces the amount of air going out by 50%.
it seemingly did not make a big difference to me, and maybe none at all. I say seemingly because I also changed pillow sizes also last night when I tried it because my fit reading did not change with the new shell alone. To me, the problem with the Hybrid is in the pillows. It may be the angle of insertion or the material. All I know is that the mask fit thingee on my Resmed S8 fluctuates widely without my even moving, no matter what setting the machine is on. That may be because the machine doesn't know how to read the mask, but when I told a hand mirror up to my face, there seem to be gaps. They also move when I lie down. I also can't use vaseline with the hybrid, because unlike the Swift, Vaseline makes the pillows move.
This does not matter if I felt rested because numbers only help tell the story--they're not the story itself--unfortunately, I can't really tell becuase I didn't get enough sleep last night.
The sample headgear, on the other hand, is superior to any of Resmed's. It's thicker, better, more comfortable, and gives more support to the mask.
I agree with those who say the existing headgear is a product defect--I cannot see it holding up for long. I think all users should get new headgear as soon as possible at no charge.
ms. piggy, i would think that new headgear pulled tighter would solve your problem. it seems adjustable to almost any size and doesn't seem like it would strain.
