Getting started

Post by newby » Wed Aug 30, 2006 8:32 am

I started out with a regular C-PAP machine set at 12 pounds. I couldn't handle the back pressure and always ended up tearing the mask off in my sleep. I was able to change to a BI-PAP/Auto BI-Flex made by Respironics. I can't believe the difference. It is actually becoming a pleasure to use it after only a few nights. What a difference to get a good nights sleep!

Bi-PAP at 12 CM (which is relatively low!) is pretty ... odd. Usually a machine with C-Flex or EPR would be a better choice, as bi-PAPs are *very* expensive. Glad it's working for you though!

Oh yeah bi-flex, missed that part.

Of course... if you have a bi-, why would you need the cflex type feature? Isn't bi-pap just a more "primitive version" of C-Flex/EPR?

Close the BI[PAP lets you control Both pressures I & E , the Bi-Flex adds a little relief based on your breathing pattern, making it more natural. Jim

Both are good, but a Bi-PAP is made to cover special problems, a APAP would cover most peoples needs, But since Bi-PAPs are more costly, everyone want one wither they need it or not. And if the Ins or Gov will pick up the added cost, why not be treated at the maxium cost to everybody. It's the American way. Jim
