Morning Snoring

Post by Larry1216 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 9:52 am

Some mornings I awaken just enough to notice that I'm lightly snoring. I'm sleeping on my back when this occurs, which seems logical. I use a Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex machine with humidifier set at 5 and a Breeze SleepGear nasal pillow mask and papcap chin strap. My mouth is not open at the time this occurs due to the strap. The auto max is set at 13.0 and the auto min is set at 8.0, which I increased from 7 within the last month but it didn't help. Is there something else I should be adjusting or should I increase the auto max or auto min?

Do whatever you can to not back sleep - backpk, foam wedges, etc... plus I would try raising the low pressure 1-2 cms. Chinstraps don't keep your lips closed of course.

As long as your ahi stays fine,is it worth worrying about the snoring/ being on your back? Maybe it depends what the data shows?

I do have an 6" diameter toy ball that I've used without CPAP. It really keeps me on one side and that hip aches like crazy in the morning, but I'll try using it with the CPAP and raising the low pressure again. Thanks Julie.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is ahi and can I check the data from the SD card?

If you're not already using software to review your data, get Sleepyhead (it's free) and monitor your therapy.
Your minimum pressure is still probably too low.

Based on the questions you're asking, it doesn't sound like you're monitoring your therapy with software. If/when you do, the answers will probably be obvious.
Also, too much heated humidity can also cause nasal congestion and exacerbate snoring and AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea-Index) numbers. And, definitely sleeping on one's back will most assuredly increase snoring, apneas and hypopneas.

And, put the exact equipment and settings you're using in your profile.
