Spam attack this morning
Spam attack this morning
There seems to be some kind of spam attack going on this morning from the online poker sites. I deleted almost 20 spam messages before I could even get to reading new posts, then more started appearing. I would really appreciate it if the list moderators / owners would set the forum to stop the ability to post spam to the forum. The ability to delete spam is great, but it sure would be nice if there were none at all.

Perhaps if the date of the original post was identified in the index, it would alert us to those messages with spam.

I agree it is getting old, I deleted about 50 of them poker sites myself and just another one a few minutes ago.
I've pretty much decided I'm not going to hit the delete button any more, screw it, let them spam, gets too bad everyone will just go to other sites
It is not that hard to track them down. If they are coming in on POP3 port 25 then shut that port down. Most ISP's like SBC shut down or filter that port for that very reason. But if the admins here don't want to take any steps at all to stop them than I don't see why I should waste my efforts trying to delete them, it's like pissing up wind.

I think it is a bot sending these things because multiple copies of same spam will come in right after each other. The admin folks should be able to filter out most of these quite easily. Wonder if there is anyway they can check the files for those we whack on a frequent basis and make a filter out of it.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
I'm beginning to feel the same way. I've been killing spam all day and I'm tired of it. I'm thinking if we DON'T delete it, maybe something will get done to filter it out better than it is.
And that's all I have to say about that......

I think if there was a way to stop the spam that was cheap, didn't require any additional man hours and didn't compromise any of the benefits of this board it would have been enabled already.
This board has been such a big help to me that I don't mind doing my part to kill spam.
That is if you guys ever leave me any

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body totally worn out and screaming,WOO HOO what a ride!
it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they are abusing the Guest account.tooly125 wrote:I think if there was a way to stop the spam that was cheap, didn't require any additional man hours and didn't compromise any of the benefits of this board it would have been enabled already.

An EXCELLENT place to start would be to ban the IPs of the perpetrators of all the deleted spam. The next most excellentest place to continue starting would be to ban the IPs of all the "registered" guests that have zero posts, and most especialliest the ones 7 days or older with zero posts (or less) AND a website (which typically points to a spam or pay-per-click website). If those were never heard from again it would be too soon.
I actually sympathize with (i.e. sorry for) those here whose purpose and meaning in life has become synonymous with KILLING! spam, (not just gently deleting it). I know you set your alarms earlier and earlier and even more earlier each day to beat out the competition. But for the rest of us, the novelty is wearing off. I'm running out of recipes for SPAM. Even the dawg won't touch it. Seems to work OK in my potato gun; for sport, I may start a drive-by-feed-the-homeless program. Even that takes time.
Maybe if we can cash in our points (1000 kills earns you a hose connector, 100,000 a mask of your choice, 140,000 an online Resmed mask of your choice, etc... only a suggestion, the sponsors of this forum have not approved this schedule).
Now THERE'S a great idea!Ric wrote:Posted: Mon Aug 28, 2006 10:10 am
IMHO, those repeat spammers, even though they are not registered, their IP addresses are known and they should filtered out and permanently banned based on the IP address.
(Wish I'd thought of it myself).

I agree, Den, this has gotten totally out-of-hand. Since bots are obviously doing the inserting, manual deletion is NEVER going to make a difference, and is going to continue to be a constant source of frustration. I'm especially annoyed by all the really OLD posts it leaves behind which clutter up the Forum maddeningly.Wulfman wrote:I'm beginning to feel the same way. It's time for the administration here to address this issue once and for all, or risk losing its participants.
I will no longer delete as it's a waste of my time.
