exhale backpressure

Post by wingfield65 » Wed Apr 13, 2016 5:27 pm

hello all,

newbie here. equipment in my signature (I hope:>). I'm having problems with air in my stomach when I wake up and a slight headache. I went to my doctor (actually saw the nurse practitioner) and she said it was because on my exhale, some of the exhale was going into my stomach. she changed the c-flex from 2 to 3 and said this should fix the problem. that said, I saw another post where someone said that the different C-Flex settings were all 2cmH20 and the difference was how quick it got to that pressure. However, the usermanual states that 3 allows the most relief. so the manual and the post offer differing thoughts on which setting offers more relief. the reason I'm bringing this up is sincerely not to get folks upended about who is right and who is wrong; but rather the 3 setting didn't really work for me. I'm tempted to try the 1 setting in hopes that might be better; but frankly I'm nervous about being worse if the manual is correct in it's wording.
The Flex settings all provide about 2 cmH2O pressure relief, settings 1-3 affect the timing of the relief with 1 being fastest and 3 being slower. Since you want the machine to switch to lower pressure faster for exhale relief, use setting 1.
on the other hand, it could be something completely different - and I'd welcome comment on that.

btw - I've never quite experienced this air in my stomach feeling. it's not like having gas; but rather higher up and quite uncomfortable. it's not the minor burping; but I'm having to force some rather large burps to get rid of the bloated feeling.

thank you for any comments / help.

the new kid on the block....

unlikely, you've almost certainly got the wrong humidifier picked, and your machine isn't showing up, if you have picked the right machine, then the link is broken, put it in the comments.

yeah, that's wrong...

higher numbers give a greater pressure drop on exhale.

hey palerider,

I have a REMstarPro M Series with C-Flex. I thought that's what I had selected in the profile; but I now see it doesn't have that exact description - possibly because it's out of date?? my mask is the ResMed Swift LT.

here's what's in my profile. not sure why it's not showing up properly. my signature doesn't show my cpap machine even though I have it selected.

ah, I see you've replied. so then C-Flex 3 is going to be the best situation I can get with this machine. if I'm still having the problem, then new machine??? I realize this one's old; but it's been sitting in my closet for 8 years or so (ie: low hours). I've come back to the fold, as it were. machine words fine, as far as I can tell.

I'd suggest putting "remstar pro m with humidifier" in the comments, and leaving the machine and humidifier part blank... cuz the older machines are broken in the list, and don't show up.

the biggest things you'd get with a new machine is extensive data showing how the therapy is going, and also (preferably) and auto machine to help find the right pressure.... you might be one of the people that has aerophagia at some pressures, but not lower ones, and the auto might let you spend most of the night at lower pressures, only raising to higher pressures when needed... then dropping back down, and giving you relief.
