What size SD card do I need for my S9?

Post by Arizona-Willie » Sat Apr 02, 2016 3:43 pm

I messed up with the new version of Sleepyhead and now the card for my S9 is not readable in Windows and Windows won't even format it.

I put it back in the S9 and it says it is reading it and does not complain but I'm not sure if it will be able to record or not.

I've decided to go on Amazon and order a new card but the old card doesn't tell me what size it is.

I think it is only 1 gb but not sure. Don't know what speed it is either.

Should I order a class 10 or lower and what size?

well, without knowing how you 'messed up', we can't really tell you what you did wrong, other than it has nothing to do with sleepyhead, because sleepyhead has no code it it that can write to your sd card unless you tell sleepyhead to store it's data directories there.

the s9 is *very* picky about the format of the SD card, and will reformat it if it doesn't like it.

some were 1g, most were 2g, either of which are overkill for the amount of data the s9 stores on the card.

I couldn't even find a 1 or 2 GB SD card on Amazon.

Ordered an 8 gb class 10.

Should be here by Monday.

Don't know if the S9 is going to save data to the old card or not. It didn't object when I inserted it. Said it was reading the card and never complained.

Windows won't recognize the old card and format it and the S9 didn't offer to format it. It did a few years ago when I did something wrong ( I'm good at that ).

Hopefully the S9 has it's instructions on internal memory and doesn't get them from the card. And hopefully it will work ok for the next couple of nights.

Sigh ... time will tell.

the S9 primarily writes to the card, it will happily take and format a blank card.

it will read a new prescription and set itself to that prescription if one was written to the card via resscan clinical software, otherwise, it reads nothing from the card.

Most recent time replacing my SD card, couldn't find any SD cards at all locally. So I got a 16GB SDHC card and the S9 has been fine with that for about a year now. And it even boots up a little faster as well with the faster memory card.

I've been hoping the Class 10 card would make it faster. It has always aggravated me when I put the card in the machine and it would take what seemed like 10 minutes to read the damn card.

My new card should be delivered by the post office this afternoon and I reckon I will format it on the computer and copy all the info from the current SD card to a directory on the desktop and then copy it back to the new card.

Should work, I hope.

You don't need to copy the information back onto the card, you CPAP will write the data in its memory to your card. Your CPAP keeps up to a years worth of data internally. If you let it do that, you don't have to worry about the computer writing extra stuff to the card that the CPAP will not understand. And your CPAP will probably reformat the card anyway, if that happens. So don't worry, just let the CPAP fix your card.

I looked on the card and it only has data back to the 1st of April.
Something has happened to it.
I was able to download data this morning from both the card and my PO.

I suspect my computer is getting wonky cause some times it will read the card and other times it tells me there is no disk in the drive or it wants to format the card and when I've told it to format it --- it said it couldn't but apparenlty it did get formatted because there is only a few days worth of data on it.

Don't know why the machine didn't write a years worth of data to it.

I've been using SD cards since before they existed.*

SD cards are always flaky, even the expensive ones with the right specs, speeds, etc. What works in one device may not work in another. Or it may work one time and not the next.

Windows PC's sometimes get confused and won't see the SD card until after you reboot. It may require an actual power off, not just a reboot.

Unless it's an expensive card, just get a new one and don't bother with the old one.

New card arrived.

Put it in machine without formatting it in computer.
Machine put folders on it but no data at all.
Put it in computer and computer recognizes it and shows no files in the folders.

Will use it tonight and see what happens.

The machine may not write the data immediately when you turn it off. Not sure what the time delay is, but it might be 10-15 minutes.

Even if you do have data on the card, SleepyHead may not display the data if they're less than 5 minutes or so.

Looked at new card with File Explorer and it shows files from two days. Machine never wrote any past history files to card.

New card is thinner and is difficult to make it stay in when I push it into machine. Grrrr.

But it is much faster at being read. Of course, there isn't much to read only two days of files.

The S9 uses a 2 GB, speed class 2, SD card formatted as FAT.
