Husband complains of sound coming from me or my machine
Husband complains of sound coming from me or my machine
Good morning,
Husband told me that the first night was great (as in I did not snore) but ever since then he hears a gushing or squealing sound. He could not replicate sound, I personally think he means like a whistling type sound. He says it's coming from either me or machine, he says he can't tell. My machine says the seal is fine and no leaks. I know that doesn't mean there's zero leaks, but that I'm not going over whatever level the machine deems as "leaking". So I don't know what he means. Maybe he hears me exhaling? He thinks I need to sleep in my side but I feel that makes the mask shift more as side sleeping keeps waking me up. I sleep on my right side if I do roll over, and my back is to him. Maybe he just doesn't hear the sound then since I don't face him that way. Which leads me to think he is hearing me exhaling. I (sarcastically/ half-jokingly) said there is nothing I can do about that as I have to exhale or I'll die I'll try side sleeping tonight but if it doesn't work for me then he's just going to have to live with the sound. He is somewhat insisting my mask isn't on right but if I'm sleeping, I don't know this until I wake up, and the numbers indicate things are working normally. Maybe I'm opening my mouth? I do feel the suction if I do that when awake, so I think I'd notice if I do it sleeping, but perhaps not.
My question is: Anyone have a significant other who shares the same bed complain of the same or similar? If so, did you figure out what it was? Today he seemed pissed off about it. I said to him unless he wants to watch me when it happens so he can figure out what it is I can't really help him. If I'm alseep and the mask is on and my readings say no leaks, not more I can do. Unless he wants me to stop using it and start snoring my head off again (which is not going to happen).
Can I download Sleepyhead software to an iPad? I want to see if more is going on than what ResMed data says.
Edut: Nevermind, I forgot you have to input the SD card so IPad will not work.
Thanks if you read up to the end.

Is he hearing the exhaust vent blowing against the covers?
If it doesn't happen all the time, then it's not the machine because that would be constant.
We run a fan for white noise. That could help.

Re: Husband complains of sound coming from me or my machine
Thanks, I don't think it's the exhaust fan? Because I just asked him and he said its like a squealing noise. He seems annoyed that I don't immediately know what he means. Problem for a completely different forum I said "squealing like a pig squealing? Or squealing like a delighted and happy 6 month old child squealing?" Because I'm sorry, what do you mean by a squealing sound? So tonight he needs to look exactly at where the sound is coming from. Me? Hose? Machine? If it's a squealing noise then is something loose? Maybe my mouth is open? Can't tell him what it is if I'm asleep so he needs to watch me when it happens. He's not happy with that reply. I may tell him to sleep on the couch at this pointCardsfan wrote:Is he hearing the exhaust vent blowing against the covers?

Before going the couch route, and while you're figuring out what the problem is, ear plugs are really easy for him to use. I agree, the answer for you isn't to stop your therapy...him suggesting that says that he really doesn't understand what's at stake for you.
The ear plugs that I use are foam ones, I think they're called "Quiet Please" by Flents. That may not be quite right, but close.

I like the soft putty type silicone earplugs available everywhere... I use them every night.RogerSC wrote:Before going the couch route, and while you're figuring out what the problem is, ear plugs are really easy for him to use. I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Squealing suggests to me a mask leak. Mask liners might help.

No, the machine is not saying that there's no leaking, it's just saying that you're not having bad enough leaks to compromise the therapy. Even small leaks can create the squealing (also described as 'whistling') noise. Sounds very much like mask leak to me.Mary1118 wrote:My machine says the seal is fine and no leaks. and, to expound on that further, it takes very little air leak to create a loud noise when the silicone starts vibrating against your skin at the side of your nose.kaiasgram wrote:No, the machine is not saying that there's no leaking, it's just saying that you're not having bad enough leaks to compromise the therapy. That's a good idea. Except when his alarm goes off, lol. But I will suggest it! Thanks.RogerSC wrote:Before going the couch route, and while you're figuring out what the problem is, ear plugs are really easy for him to use. I had been thinking something like that too. I may just give her a call. My alarm still wakes me up when I use ear plugs...maybe I have a louder alarm? Anyways, I've been using ear plugs for about 10 years now, no problems with alarm clock or anything else.Mary1118 wrote:That's a good idea. Except when his alarm goes off, lol. But I will suggest it! Re: Husband complains of sound coming from me or my machine
add white noise in your bedroom with a fan or white noise machine--it will mask the sound
