Another Resistance Control question
Another Resistance Control question
Hi everyone. Writing this question (too quickly) as I have to go out the door shortly. That and the fact that I have little technical expertise means I am hoping for an easy answer to a complicated (?) question. Has anyone determined what Respironics System One resistance control setting is appropriate for a F&P Simplus Full Face Mask? And just for fun here is a bonus question: when I first got my fixed CPAP pressure machine many years ago (also a System One), my doctor advised me to not use the white disposable filter because it, in his mind, interfered with the air flow. Now that I have an auto machine, will the machine compensate for any real or imagined reduction in air flow caused by that filter?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help, I know I need to spend more time here getting edu-micated, as I think Popeye said.

Re: Another Resistance Control question
I think I did see a DeVry diploma on his wall, but one would think any amount of filtration would decrease air flow, right? But are our CPAP machines so brilliantly engineered to take that into account when providing optimum air flow? Once again, I am a Underwater Basket weaving type of guy, but his assertion does not seem to be completely without merit. That's why I asked.
Re: Another Resistance Control question
I definitely like using the white disposable filter during allergy season (which is in full blossom here in Georgia). I don't think they interfere with flow as long as they are changed before they become clogged.

Re: Another Resistance Control question
The filters are used to keep the inside of the machine clean, but more so to keep your insides cleaner - the white ones are more often used by those with allergies e.g. to dust, and the machine is perfectly able to deliver all the therapy air you need, filter or no filter. You're worrying about the 'wrong' thing entirely. Your doctor is sadly uninformed/uneducated and though may understand something of the science of OSA, obviously has no clue when it comes to equipment and/or therapy.

airflow, and pressure, are measured *after* the filter, so they have no effect whatsoever on the final delivered pressure.Roboski wrote:I think I did see a DeVry diploma on his wall, but one would think any amount of filtration would decrease air flow, right? his assertion is completely without merit.
use system one resistance setting x1, all the resprionics ffm use a setting of x1

Phillips says if its not one of their masks the setting should be left at 0.palerider wrote:airflow, and pressure, are measured *after* the filter, so they have no effect whatsoever on the final delivered pressure.Roboski wrote:I think I did see a DeVry diploma on his wall, but one would think any amount of filtration would decrease air flow, right? because they don't care enough to figure out appropriate settings for other masks.TonyG wrote:Phillips says if its not one of their masks the setting should be left at 0.palerider wrote:airflow, and pressure, are measured *after* the filter, so they have no effect whatsoever on the final delivered pressure.Roboski wrote:I think I did see a DeVry diploma on his wall, but one would think any amount of filtration would decrease air flow, right? it's all about the resistance specs published in the backs of the manuals. if you want the small advantage the resistance setting gives, then figure out which philips mask your mask best corresponds to. and, like I said, all FFM masks are x1.
