Going downhill again!

Post by Gcfcos » Sat Mar 26, 2016 4:58 pm

Hello guys, it's been a while as the cpap treatment had been going really well to the point I was full of energy throughout the day after being awake for an hour or so and then sort of crashing late evening but was so happy to have energy and not feeling tired! I am a member of a car club and hadn't been able to go the a meeting since before Xmas as the late night i couldn't cope with. I'd had a really good day and went home from work and fitted a new battery to my classic car so I could take it to the Meeting that evening. All was going well and it was a cold evening and spent most of it outside chatting to a few guys for about 3.5 hours and then headed home. My report the next day showed my events to have risen from my usual 0.1 to 4.5 all the way up to 10.5. I put this down to the late night. This was a week ago and have had events ranging from 6.5 to its highest last night at 16.5! I have felt like crap all week just from what seemed to be one night out. When my wife came home from her night shift this morning she said she could hear me snoring from out in the hallway before she even got in our front door! She'd assumed that I'd not got my mask on but to her suprise I had it on and the machine was working! I was on my back, and it seems that since that night out despite going to sleep on my side apparently I soon go on my back without knowing and sleep on my back which could be caising the problems? Prior to this I was falling asleep and waking up on my side. My diet was going really well but this has depressed me so much I'm now eatin more crap than I was before

Any chance you're coming down with a nasty upper respiratory infection? Or the flu? Sometimes my AHI increases quite a bit a few days before I start showing (other) symptoms of being sick.

Any chance spring allergies are kicking in?

Any chance you are doing a lot more back sleeping than normal?

Sleeping on ones back and getting more events is a classical issue. It is why they want you to sleep on your back in in-lab studies. Some people have a special shirt with a tennis ball sewn in the back to prevent them from rolling over. It is the reason some people prefer an auto machine but your pressure is already on the high side.

I have a similar problem with sleeping on my back in that my jaw opens too much due to gravity. My solution as a dog at my knees - no room to turn.

Hi thanks for your reply. We did spend about 3.5 hours in the cold outside and I've been feeling a bit like I have a slight cold ever since like achy joints and being generally run down etc. We're going to try putting a rolled up towel or something similar between us tonight to try and stop me turning over

Probably the first thing to do is see if you can eliminate back-sleeping as the culprit. See if you can locate an old backpack (the lightweight daypack type) and fill it up with several towels or whatever. Wear it to bed for a couple of nights to prevent back sleeping then check your data with free Sleepyhead sleep software. Don't have Sleepyhead. Here you go:

First: Here’s the link on where to get free Sleepyhead software:

Here, in order, are the three excellent links that graphically show you how to get the correctly sized Sleepyhead images to show up in your CPAPtalk post:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Gaining and/or losing even a few lbs can make a surprising difference, esp. to a FFM, because your face tends to shrink or grow first when weight changes... and you said there had been changes.

When I was sick.....late December....my events went way up for a week. Then back down as I recovered. And, the back sleeping doesn't help. Hang in there.

Well got the events down to 1.5 last night! Still feel like crap today but think it's where I haven't had proper sleep for a week. Going to try and sleep as much as possible now to recouperate, so badly want to get back to how I was feeling a week ago!

That's better. Always going to be bumps in the road, but stick it out.

Bumps in the road are good things. They teach you both what not to do and how good it can be if you do it right and pay attention.

Tape or pin it to your pyjama top or T-shirt.
