Apnea rising
Apnea rising
My apnea has been ok the last couple of months, at around 2-3, my pressure on straight C-pap has been 12.6. Suddenly the last 3 nights it was 3.24 then 6.6 the next night, them 8.5 last night, no leaks, everything else looks roughly the same.Any Ideas why? Thanks.

Without seeing some detail from Sleepyhead all you will get is guesses. Download Sleepyhead software and share some graphs. Guesses....Mouth breathing, pressure issues, mask issues etc

Re: Apnea rising
Have you been on some new medication? Gained any weight quickly?
Re: Apnea rising
More wild guesses about what might be going on:
1) Beginning of allergy season????
2) Starting to come down with a bad head cold or the flu???
In my own data I often see a pretty sharp rise in the AHI just *before* I come down with a really nasty head cold or a case of the flu. The AHI goes back to normal once I get over the illness.

Re: Apnea rising
There are some threads on here about organizing and posting Sleepyhead data. If you search them and use the Imgur photo bucket site and copy the links you are going to give the folks here a much better presentation of your data.
Re: Apnea rising
toekneeg,
We really need to see both a typical night (before the AHI started to rise) and the bad night. We need the baseline to help you figure out what might be going on.
And we do need to know if there have been any changes in lifestyle recently. A whole list of things may be responsible for the increased AHI. Some of them are only going to temporarily increase the AHI; others may indicate the need to tweak the therapy settings.
Can you answer the following questions so that we have a better sense of what might be going on:
1) Any sign you might be coming down with an upper respiratory illness? Is the flu going around where you live? What about a nasty head cold virus?
2) Did you consume more alcohol than usual on any of these nights? Did you drink alcohol closer to bedtime than usual?
3) Any new medications? Any changes in medications that you regularly take?
4) Any health conditions other than OSA that you are dealing with? Any of those conditions known to have a strong correlation with OSA?
5) Any recent changes to your sleep routine?
Also you write:
Now all that said, your leaks are technically small enough to be considered "under control", but it is possible that the data for the periods 1:15-2:15 and 5:40-6:20 may be somewhat inaccurate because the leaks are at or not much below 24 L/min for those two extended time frames. (Meaning the AHI could be worse than reported.)
So other questions that need to be addressed:
1) Does the leak line usually look this mediocre?
2) How old is the P10 headgear? How old are the P10 pillows?
3) Do you do a lot of mouth breathing?

In spite of you saying that there were no leaks, the data you posted clearly shows that you are leaking all night long. The Resmed AirSense you are using only reports excess leakage. In other words, a great leak line for a Resmed is at or very close to 0.0 L/min all night long. Yours is not. Your median leak rate is 7.2 L/min, which means that for 50% of the night, your excess leaks are AT or ABOVE 7.2 L/min. Your 95% Leak rate is 21.6 L/min. So for 5% of the night your leak rate was close to the Resemed Redline of 24 L/min.toekneeg wrote:My apnea has been ok the last couple of months, at around 2-3, my pressure on straight C-pap has been 12.6.
