Hello everyone
Just diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and I am in process to get my cpap. I have couple questions please.
My insurance is not asking for compliance and pays 80% of the cost. Couple places that I called they want me to rent them for at least 3 months and insisted that insurance is demanding compliance with is not true. Some tells me after that it will be converted to purchase in which it will then I will have pay my chare of the cost. Where i can purchase it from in network (BCBS) DME suppliers? Is there any online retailers that you know off that accept insurance. I want purchase it and own it and don't have bother w usage monitoring
Thanks
Purchasing my 1st cpap machine

Re: Purchasing my 1st cpap machine
Get the list of in network suppliers FROM YOUR INSURANCE.
Only deal with them.
If a DME insists your insurance is different than they say,
Get them both in on a CONFERENCE CALL.
I did that with an intractable DME, and they gave me no more guano.

BUT, if you're free to buy anywhere, the host of this forum is Cpap.com and has the most variety at the best prices, and you can peruse all on that website. You'll need a script of course, that you can scan/e-mail to them (for masks as well) and can try out diff. masks x 30 days for a little return fee.

I've had BCBS, too, and my plan had most local DME's in their network.
You have to get the list, or you will pay more.
Compare your cost with what you would pay from our hosts.
Out of BCBS network, my deductibles and copay doubled, but cpap.com does not deal with insurers.
You will have to pay up front, and do lots of paperwork. BCBS lost mine.

Re: Purchasing my 1st cpap machine
We the newly diagnosed with apnea and have a RX I feel we're being held hostage buy DME. They all want to make money of of rental.the claim " the insurance requesting or will not pay" that's a big fat lie, some insurance don't ask for compliance."the doctor needs to read it" also a big fat lie, Doctor don't have time to monitor every one, plus I have the sd card and or cloud for information if needed."we need to make sure of the pressure" with APAP and RX I don't need that.
I stand corrected
Any online retailers that do insurance that you know of? Or locally
I have BCBS AND I'm IN CHICAGO Area
Thanks
It's been a frustrating experience

Re: Purchasing my 1st cpap machine
Try calling your insurance and ask them if they will reimburse you if you buy online. I have BCBS of AL and that is what I do. The only problem you might have is it is considered an out of network provider and you will have to pay anything above the allowed amount.

Re: Purchasing my 1st cpap machine
Most insurance companies want to make sure you are using the machine regularly before they buy it. That's why most have you rent for a period of time. If you don't comply they take back the machine. With Medicare, you rent for 12-13 months and then you own the unit.Born2Bwild wrote:We the newly diagnosed with apnea and have a RX I feel we're being held hostage buy DME.
