FF Masks For TMJ

Post by MDee » Tue Mar 08, 2016 7:37 pm

I am hoping to find a mask that will not make my TMJ worse.

I have a receding jaw with a wicked overbite and when I relax during sleep my lips do not stay together. We tried a chin strap but this put too much upwards/backwards pressure on my jaw. my dentist (who is a TMJ specialist) has decided to not to try a mouthguard because they tend to pull my jaw forward. (note: my issue is not grinding of teeth but misalignment of my jaw).

So that leaves me with finding a full face mask. We've tried a few during the titration study (the tech would not give me their names) and they all made the TMJ worse. The tech recommended a nasal mask with chin strap (but see above).

Based on what I am reading here, I think I might want to test the chin cup FF masks? the two I've seen discussed here are: F&P Flexifit 432 and Forma Fisher Paykel. Any other suggestions for things to take into account?

Look at the Hybrid on Cpap.com and see what you think...

Thanks, I looked at two video reviews. No one is mentioning TMJ specifically but it looks promising.

That's a tough one. Masks tend to be made for the norm, hence more money to be reaped by the manufacturers. Two or three years ago there was some discussion of custom made/fitted masks that were available, however I just looked thru my saved bookmarks and can't find those references. Maybe somebody else can chime in on that issue. I didn't have a lot of luck with the hybrids because of my high therapy pressures, but every face and case is different.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Give the Amara View a shot. I can wear my TMJ bite splint with it pretty comfortably. And it is the only one that also hasn't set off panic attacks for me. I can still wear my glasses once it is on which helps a lot.
