Sleep Shepherd Blue for Insomnia

Post by sptrout » Fri Feb 26, 2016 10:07 am

Not sleep apnea related, and I am not endorsing this product, but it sounds interesting to me. The soon to be shipping product is called "Sleep Shepherd Blue" and information is available at the link below.

This product is being funded by "crowd funding", that has had some issues in the news lately (not necessarily this site, KickStarter, as far as I know). Note that their original goal was to raise just $25,000, but have already beaten that goal by 10x and are expecting to start shipping in May.

Anyway, you may want to consider it before it is released at full MSRP pricing.

I use binaural beats (music in my case) from a bedside CD/SD player to help me sleep at night... I think it enhances my sleep somewhat but I don't think it's a cure for insomnia. Frankly I just don't need another thing on my head

From their promo literature:

"The Sleep Shepherd Blue is unlike any other wearable sleep tracker. It’s the first – and only – product to actively promote better sleep and track brainwave activity, which is what sleep professionals use to determine actual sleep stages. The Sleep Shepherd Blue helps you optimize your sleep patterns with a patent-pending biofeedback system using customized binaural beats and passive EEG measurements."

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

My first thought about this product: Will it wind up going the way of the Zeo???

robysue,
I hope not. Zeo was a great product, but required access to their database to fully dig into the data (not really, but very helpful, kind of like a web-based Sleepyhead). I used one for about 6 months before they went under, I really learned a lot about my sleep and what was causing problems (almost always a medication of some type, Rx or OTC). It appears that all data collected by this new device are stored on your smartphone. Besides, the data collection seems to be a "nice to have" feature that does not appear to be the core feature which is to help with sleep. We are going to give two of them a try; we have tried about everything else.

Sir NoddinOff,
I am lucky that I use nasal pillows, which would not present a problem with this device. However, I do use a sleep mask also, and all three combined would seem to be a problem. The sleep mask goes.

I used Zeo, for a few weeks and then it was kind of useless. I agree it is another thing on your head. As for me, the whole thing about beats putting you to sleep doesn't work for me, I have tried many products like that. I wish it did, but no matter what it doesn't work, even the new isotonic beats, I'm not sure I am spelling that right where you don't need headphones don't work for me. Though just because it doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for you and if it does, that is the most wonderful thing. To use some thing that is drug free is nice. I'm better off with a relaxation / hypnosis CD but I get sick of the same script every night so I don't use it that often.

Blessings,

Mike
